Outskirts of Delhi N Just In Haryana

                                                                                     The Tughlaq tomb

"I love to be in the warmth of my blanket, tucked in like a baby. But sometimes this whole ritual of just lazing around is boring.More so when you are in the city which sleeps late. The city which is always in the news for good or more for wrong reasons. The city which is famous for both sardi and its garmi."

I still remember talking to one of my friend who very casually said "Me dilli ja ra hu,and den at a very excited tone dilli ki ladkiyan suna hai badi soni hoti hai.He was more excited about the gals than his own admission.I do not deny the fact, the gals in Delhi are very well groomed no matter what.So yes, Delhi is famous for gals.

But of late, Delhi has gained a strikingly notorious reputation of "THE RAPE CAPITAL" of India. So what if the gals are smart and sweet and everything else,it never gives anyone the right to do anything they want to.It happens everywhere in India,a touch here and there is so casual that no gal born can escape the brutal reality that we have to face.So on a starting note,we sign a petition towards NDTV initiative to stop rape.

                                                                                         NDTV Petition

Every coin has a good and a bad side to it.Delhi is in fact one of the cities which remains close to my heart for all the right reasons, touch wood till date.I remember walking along the qutub minar and the lotus temple with dad and mom way back when I was a child.I also remember, the short in between trips to Delhi during my summer vacations from Manipal. Either it served as a perfect stopover for Haridwar,Chandigarh or Jammu or it always remained the old chaotic self. But it was always there, and will always be.

3 Hours In And Around Delhi And Not the usual stuff

Video on Delhi

I sometimes wonder, what if you have a day, just a day to roam around Delhi.Where would you go and what would you do?There are umpteen number of weekend gateways from Delhi online, and yes Manali,Kullu,Shimla,Nainital etc etc are truly one of the best places around but what if you just want to drive not so long. What happens then?

Then you are bound to search for your destination.I take you to few,we did in 3 hours flat! And no,we didn't go to Qutub Minar or Humayun Tomb or Red Fort which are famous and would be covered in subsequent posts but not today.

The Tughlakabad Fort And Tughlaq Tomb

The walled Enclosure Of Tughlaq Tomb

We have had planned Surajkund Lake, but on the way came a magnificent fort.Surprisingly there was no queue. How could it be?It was the coldest day today.People would rather stay at home, and even I was dreaming to be at home in my small blanket, but then I was happy to have discovered a hidden gem out of the blue.

We took tickets from the counter, and started going up towards the fort and then realized how magnificent was the other side.It was all foggy but the red and cream of the tomb was a contrast we cannot deny to have fallen for.Delhi is one such city where places of architectural beauty has been modified, colored and improved on over the years.

We were the only ones to go in during the morning wee hours. There were parrots and monkeys, and in between was the tomb standing in silence.I sometimes wonder, why some places are still hidden and the thought itself make me to travel more and more.

Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range,Tughlakabad Delhi

Jungle Fowl Camp By Haryana Tourism Comes In Between

Spread over 72 acres, just ahead of Tughlakabad Fort,Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range is members exclusive. We asked the terms and conditions, and turned out to be that for membership it costs 1500 for 3 months time-span. Not so costly for the world class Shooting facility.

SurajKund Lake,Faridabad Haryana

The Surajkund Complex is a large area which is spread across many resorts, miniatures of state symbols and the lake. The entry fee is 40 Rs.

Surajkund Lake,I wish there was water!

When we started we thought the lake would be lake. But alas! The lake has no water, though the place wasn't at all shabby we expected to be in Haryana. We loved the stairs which go up and down like an open auditorium alongside the lake. The camels were loving the weather, and we were enjoying the peacefulness which we otherwise never get in Delhi

There were areas dedicated to each state in the complex, though the entry was closed. The gaurd said that the preparation has already started for the Surajkund Crafts Mela in Feb.

I dunno what made me smile :)

For those who do not know,"The Surajkund Crafts Mela has been upgraded as an international event and is now known as as 'Surajkund International Crafts Mela' from this year February 1 to 15,2013.

That's it for today,if you haven't been to Neemrana yet,you should it's also one of the places to visit around Delhi within 1.5 hours. And it's beautiful!

07 Jan 2012: Delhi is Backpacker's Paradise, and should be.There are so many many places around. It's foggy, its snowy and its no doubt beautiful. There have been so many queries in my inbox on where to go and how.Of course I have been to many of the places, but not all.I cannot be the only source of information,we need folks,we need more travelers,to interact, know each other, form groups and of course travel together.
Here's your chance to be part of the Delhi Traveler's Meet .

To know more about the previous meetup, check the Bangalore Traveler's Meet.I am still trying to form a group of all the travelers I met that day, some of them have already been part of the Facebook group "The Great Indian Travelers" I suggested, and hopefully we have more and more travelers coming ahead to form a big nomad gang to travel together.

Bangalore Traveler's Meet on Deccan Chronicle

I am glad that I met Krithi Marla Mithun in one of the Four seasons meet, and we have been friends since then.Through my facebook page,I have had regular interactions suggestions and advices from
Anuj Nigam,Jinesh Bagadia,Karan Veer Singh,Anil Kumar,Malik Shahfumalik,Ishan Aaditya Soni,Amit Wairkar,Subramaniam Meenakshisundaram,J V Karthik and many many others. In fact Anil suggested me a nice logo for my brand, and I am delighted and happy for all of you to be here.

Hence, you all are invited to the "Delhi Traveler's Meet" where we have 3 hours of icebreaker session and discussion on how we can plan our travel ahead. As in the last meetup,I suggest all of you to pour ideas, get your musical instruments and other stuff and make the session lively. In the Bangalore Traveler's Meet,Shravan won a small gift for entertaining us with a very melodious song. You could be the next winner?Win or lose,we all should enjoy,or else it turns out to be just another meetup,or a formal way to know.If you are good at photography, and would want to click pics of the event or help me with the arrangements,do let me know, and any of you can join me an hour prior to the event with the setup, plan and your ideas.

My First Cliff Jump : An Incredible Experience

"Either you jump or get pushed!,Look straight and Do not look down" Said My Instructor. All excited to do this petty jump in Rishikesh from a cliff 30 feet from the ground 3 years back,it was one of my first adventures.Teamed up with white water rafting ,stay in camp and a trek to an unknown waterfall the adventures never seemed to end.Though I enjoyed a few seconds of under the water experience in cliff jump than anything else. You jump like hurray and you go into the water like whoosh ,stay there for fraction of second and bounce back just like a balloon on top of water. It isn't as relaxed as the Scuba Dive, but something which just lasts a fraction of second.

Cliff Jumping At Rishikesh gave me the courage to try about everything that comes my way.If one place that defines the true adventure,it has to be Rishikesh any day.Kayaking,Cliff Jump,Bungee Jump,Raft and Trek,There are so many things to do.

Cliff diving/Cliff Jumping is probably the least complicated extreme sport. There's no equipment to buy, no special clothing to wear and no provider services to hire. It's just your body, sailing through the air from dizzying heights and plunging into a body of water below.Today, there are cliff diving competitions around the globe.

Cliff Jumping According To Wikipedia

Cliff jumping, cliffjumping, cliff-jumping may represent:
-Jumping from a cliff as a platform, see jumping platform
-Jumping off a cliff for a skydive, see BASE jumping

How Did Cliff Diving/Cliff Jumping Start

It's believed, when Hawaiian King Kahekili commanded his men to leap off the cliff on the southern end of the island of Lanai, as a test of courage and loyalty to him. They did!Later he refined the jumping into cliff diving competitions at the same site. That's how cliff Jumping Started

Cliff Jumping In India

Cliff Jumping,Rishikesh:
Cliff Jumping in Rishikesh is very easy compared to rest of the sites. Some people jump for utmost fun,I did it too twice. It is part of the rafting packages in Rishikesh, and the thrill it gives is unparallel.

Cliff Jumping,Hampi:
Where there are boulders and cliffs, there are bound to be cliff jumps.Though Hampi has not yet evolved as a professional dive site, you would still find the local kids at Tugbadhra river jumping on and off the cliff.

Cliff Jumping,St Marine's Island Karnataka: The best cliff jumping site is the pentagon lava cliff at the St. Marine's Island.Located at a height of 40-45 metres, this is still not popular as the Rishikesh one.

Cliff Jumping,Bedaghat,Jabbalpur: If you have traveled your way through the ferries in Bedaghat, you would see many small kids jumping off the cliff, and quoting their own rates for each jump.

Please note none of the sites except Rishikesh is easy and developed. If you still would love to try,its best to consult the locals and go ahead. Not every rock is inviting and nor every site is perfect for cliff jump. Not recommended for anyone whose heart is beating very very fast or those who suffer from heart problems.Best to plan your jump in groups.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, established in 2009 and created by Red Bull, is an annual international series of cliff diving events in which a limited number of competitors determine the Cliff Diving World Series winner.

Divers jump from a platform at a height ranging from 26–28 m. Competitions are held in a limited number of venues around the globe.

Best Cliff Jumping Sites Abroad

Today, avid cliff divers travel the world seeking the next great thrill and the ultimate leap. The beautiful locations that host popular cliffs and international competitions range from the frigid natural pools of Switzerland to the balmy waters of Jamaica. But exotic locations are just one factor that makes cliff diving exciting -- freefalling through the air at dangerous speeds is a big part of the rush.

Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2013

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.

The drizzle, the pickle, the peanut, the butter, the fog the chocolates, the wind the bubble, the ropeway the magic.Guess where am I?I am at the FOG Capital of India.Ah..who said so?Who else than me.The misty mountains touch our heart with the feeling of goodness(FOG) as we have fun over Gunhill(FOG) and the walk free of gears(FOG).

Yes,you guessed it right.I am at Mussoorie, the popular weekend gateway from Delhi.
For all previous posts on Mussoorie: All posts

Isn't It Almost In The Air..well Almost !

Mussoorie Popular Because..

It's laid back: We reached Mussorie at around 8 am,the shops were closed. The ponies were loose. The buses were lined up vacant. And when we ask a few locals passing by we got an answer as casual as it could be "When It'll open then It'll open:)"

It's romantic: Mussoorie is honeymooner's choice for more than one reason. The weather is too good to be true.I loved the gentle touch of FOG everywhere where I went.I loved the hot served food and the options to hike. What's not to love anyway?

Video On Mussoorie

What To Do In Mussoorie

I sometimes fail to understand, why are people so cruel to animals?

It's a place where you can enjoy and cherish the simple things in life. But there are few things you should keep in mind, which we learned while we travelled.

1)Traveling in and around Mussoorie on a rented car is costly.Use buses or ricks.

2)Shopping in Mussoorie is great for bargains.Quote your own price wherever.

3)Enjoy chocolate pan,buy genuine peanut butter and taste the Tibetan food.

4)Watch movie at the 5d movie theater at Picture Palace

5)Dress up as a Garwali

Mussoorie A Place To Walk and Not Honk

On the colorful lanes of Landour

Start walking from the main entry point where buses are lined up,visit the temple, climb the shortcut stairs right up to the mall road, keep walking, visit kulri bazaar still keep walking visit Landour.Get into the ropeway in between to Gunhill or you can even hike to Gunhill in 20 minutes.

Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time.

Enjoy the various food options along. There are local shops selling bamboo chairs to woollens to the branded ones like UCB etc.If walking is not your cup of tea, take a rickshaw which is very popular mode of transport there, though I would suggest take your time and just walk around.

Mussoorie Been There Done What?

1)Gun Hill : Gun Hill is just a ropeway away from the main road, and the other side is very beautiful with view of valley and hills. It's small circumference where you can play archery, play games, meet the magician or dress up as a Garwali, and get your pictures clicked.

2)Landour : For me walking along the lanes of Landour was better than my trip to Gun Hill. For two reasons, one if it's walk up from the Kulri Bazaar,it's a beautiful walk down from a shortcut.Do not forget to walk the route, than take a car.In between the hike,is a small Landour Bazaar which serves hot chocolate brownie.

3)Kempty Falls : A popular gateway near Mussoorie,Kempty Falls can be reached by a bus from the bus stand.

4)Dhanaulti : Is situated between Mussoorie and Chamba.Eco park is the main attraction of Dhanaulti. From Dhanaulti, on the road towards Chamba lies the Surkanda Devi Temple, famous for its Ganga Dussehra fair in autumn.Located on Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road are the Himalayan Weavers who produce hand-woven shawls, stoles, scarves and throws using only natural dyes and wool, eri silk and pashmina. You can get bus and taxi from Mussoorie to Dhanaulti.

5)Jharipani : I loved staying at Oak Grove School Jharipani. It's peaceful, its quiet and its still untouched. We enjoyed our hike up and down in the landslides.

The Unusual Robber's Cave Dehradun

Robber's Cave (locally known as Guchhupani) is a river cave formation located approximately 8 km from the center of Dehradun City.Local bus services are available up to Anarwala Village, from where it is a kilometre's trek away. You have to walk almost a km in the gorge in the ankle deep water.Emerging as a popular tourist spot,it is one of the most interesting places to visit nearby Dehradun. You can also take a bus from Mussoorie to Dehradun which takes around 40-45 minutes and then hop onto another to Anarwala village

SATTE 2013:A SmartPhone Essay

I didn't know it would be that huge.I didn't know it would be that interesting and of course I didn't know I'll get to interact with so many lively people all under one roof displaying their culture in different forms.

What I knew was I was going to SATTE 2013 Pragati Maidan Delhi, because I got the last invite from Tourism Malaysia for Travel Mart in Mumbai held on Jan 11 and the lady on phone told me that they are coming to SATTE 2013 as well in Delhi.I had already registered with SATTE 2013 by then, and when she said If you are there, visit our stall. So did I.But since I wasn't so prepared with the idea of uninvited carnival in between the business,I didn't get my camera.I regret why I didn't.But I had my small smart phone, low on battery in hand. And I didn't miss a single moment to click, though videos couldn't be recorded.I did try to,but it didn't get saved. From now on "It has to be camera always,no matter business or pleasure". You never know what might just be there.

About SATTE 2013

SATTE 2013 was held in Pragati Maidan,New Delhi from 16-18th Jan.It is an annual event, happens every year.I plan to attend next year too as with next year we have more carnivals and displays.I was a Business visitor in the event with entry to all three days in all the stalls.

The Badge I Cherish Which Grabbed Eyeballs Because Of My Designation
Not for wrong reasons , but just out of curiosity

Why was SATTE 2013 Worth?

From the folks from Nepal tourism,to the most desired country Thailand,to the delightfully beautiful Malaysia,to the ancient and adventurous Turkey, to the Peaceful and Serene New Zealand,to my Bollywood favorite Spain,to Hongkong and Macau,to the last visited Maldives,to sand dunes of Dubai to the party place LAS Vegas,to the nature's favorite California to the rich in landscapes Korea,to the still undiscovered Oman. You name it we had it.I surely had enough reasons to do a Gangnam Style, right there.

                                                                                           Pose Anyone?

But more than that,it was the people who meant the difference as always. It was the education and the information I got through each stall.Truth is you cannot learn everything from google, not because its huge data, but because once someone adds their own personal touch,it becomes memorable, and so easy to remember. It is the excitement in their eyes.

                                                                  Ding A Dong Sing A Song @ SATTE 2013

I call it a carnival.Because we had the most beautiful fairies, the most handsome dude and the very charming doll to entertain us.Do you know how does she walk, like a tip top.Do you know he sang a charming Hindi song for us and also danced on tunes. The princess well is indeed a Cinderella, isn't she beautiful?

Who said Business has to be boring!

The People I Met,The Countries They Belong : International Exhibitors

So let me share a little chit chat we had.On the Malaysian Tourism stall I met the folks from the board and then saw a few folks dressed in Malaysian attire ready to be clicked,so there I was. From the Turkey stall,I received gifts. The EYE souvenir I always wanted to have and the gentleman told me it is considered lucky in Turkey. The folks from Thailand and Bhutan were as polite and nice. The folks from New Zealand told me we have given the pamphlets do not forget to go through it.We know New Zealand already that how beautiful it is?Don't we.The folks from Spain were amazing. They took a map out,and explained me every thing related to Spain, the culture the festivals the food everything. It is so very similar to India.

It reminds me the attitude of People world over.Peter From Spain who I met last weekend is  a     skydiving instructor for last 10 years in Spain.Very Humble, down to earth and well spoken.

The folks from Oman were sweet to help me understand Oman which is still not explored.I promised I'll write an article on them, which I'll do in a week. The folks from Indonesia had confidence in me that even I was a little skeptical of initially. My badge said blogger, and he said "Interested in Interviewing Embassy? He's there just for today,Journalists interviewing them.Wait for 15 minutes I'll call you?"..And all I could think was I barely have a camera, even though I had this rare excitement in my heart.

After waiting for half an hour in the queue of Journalists who were having all the gadgets which they could possibility have, the interview never seemed to end.One hour two hour and still we had the journalists inside and then I decided to just walk around other stalls. That was a good decision as later I realised the whole session was dedicated to journalists with each one taking an hour or two.My turn wouldn't have come anyways. But then Indonesia is one of the countries I really want to visit curtsey an Uncle who is just Back from Bali and he is all praises and praises.Moving forward,I went to Dubai,Abu Dhabi and Singapore.Next I went to Maldives stall where I told her I have just been there a month's back and our conversation started with which islands, and what all is more to see there. Its interesting to see how we connect with people we barely know.I went to Korea stall and got a small Korean gift.Wow! I love it.It didn't end here. The gentlemen explained me everything on Korea,I liked the "Jeju island with no visas".I met most of the participating countries, and as many stalls as I could cover..I wanted to meet everyone, and with everyone I met was the small gift or a pamphlet or a cd or a disc,I got it return.

The Folks From Back Home:National Exhibitors

The exhibition was huge,I did miss a few here and there. But I covered stalls from all Nationals and Internationals.A lady I met at the Chattisgarh stall almost became my friend as I had spend 3 years of my life in Chattisgarh, and we had so many things to discuss just because I knew her place. And same goes for everyone. The advices from Delhi tourism to the very generic question from Maharashtra tourism on how do I earn out of Blogging to the people from Orissa.I could connect more to the National stalls, because I had already been there.Kashmir - Kerala - Sikkim - All India Road Trip - There are barely states which are left - And Those few places within the states which are still - I have that in my Plan 2013 :)

                                                                       The Namaskar @ Orissa Tourism

Now that I am back,I aim to stay in touch with the folks I met,not solely for Business, but for the precious time they had devoted to explain me everything.

The day I went to SATTE 2013 and met so many people in Delhi, the same day I was awarded a momento in GCC Travel Awards in Bangalore.Though I do not have a snapshot of the momento at the moment,I promise I'll upload it the day I reach Bangalore :)

Delhi Traveler's Meet : A Glimpse

Meetups are fun.Period.No matter where in the world you are from, there should always be a get together for us to know each other.Like a party next door.Like a celebration. And it rarely happens so..

"When we start working, when we have our spouses, when we get married, when we have children, when we go onsite, when we grow old,we gradually change our methods of traveling.Sometimes,an old friend is too busy to accompany, and sometimes being on our own gives us the space to explore more. There is,and always a point, when many of us are at a void."

Many times we have our own personal glitches, either its financial or lack of support from the nomads long forgotten. When I decided to start my blog "I had no plans".I just wanted to help people out there on the online sphere and not confuse them with loads of data.I wanted to fill the gap.

When I started Traveler's Meet,I wanted to help every person connect to each other and not just on a virtual platform.I might be an altogether different person virtually, and a very alternate person in reality. With the boom of social media,we find friends to connect we might never know anything about except their twitter handle or may be just an Indiblogger account.Things have to change,if we all want to open up and travel together.

The meetups become more formal as we age,and it wasn't a surprise to me when I got questions like

This is my first meetup, what is the agenda?

When I do meetups,I do it in collaboration with the funkiest cafe in town, and not so expensive. It is my sole responsibility to get it forward in an interactive manner, and the folks from cafe are sweet to help me with whatever lil help I need. Most of the time, the agenda is a simple ice breaker session with discussion on future travel plans.Apart from that,we have some random friendly games where people get to know each other.

Can you brief us about the MOM?

MOM or the "Minutes of Meeting" remind me of my corporate days. The MOM's are usually the fun events, you can be part of.Nothing much can be written about it,but you have to come and feel the ambiance or the people:)

What do I gain out of it?

When people ask me question like this,it is usually confined to "what monetary gains",the sessions are charged based on the time space allocated for the cafe(4-7pm) ,that's the peak time for business/leisure.So for my gain,nothing..

Except some new friendships, new nomads, and new ideas!

Why Traveler's Meet?

Why not!

Delhi Travelers Meet What We Did

When it started,it started with a few folks getting in the Kunzum Travel Cafe a little before time, confused on "Are they at the right place" as the cafe was getting renovated with new set of interesting pictures on the wall, taken by Ajay who is the owner of the cafe. Finally the few newbies were relaxed and at peace and started sharing their work, their travel stories with me and others. We were just 6 of us initially at 4 pm,and we knew that people would come when the traffic would ease at Hauz Khas!Yes,the deadly traffic we all got stuck in :)..They had to,there were 104 registrations,so many that I had to put a hold on RSPV's at the end.

..And slowly and slowly people started coming in,each of them with their own stories, own ideas, own plans, own hobbies, own creativity. And the more the folks walked in every time, the merrier the gang began to open up.We started with our group games on maps and places to go on budget and we had winners who came up with interesting itineraries and discussion on what to include and what not to.Some funny, some real and some to just win.And the winners got the "Kuch Meetha Ho Jae" as a small token of appreciation. We had 'Thumba','Wanderers','Mad Men' and 'Who cares!' as groups. So now we know how to cover Kathmandu in 12.5k all inclusive 6 people 5 days, and Nagtibba also on a budget and with camping.

Similar to the judges call on 'Silence please',we had bells to hold and do 'Tring Tring',so that one listens to each other and not just chit-chat.Many of them blew shankhs, and yes the evening ended on a wonderful note as Preeti sang for all of us on her guitar with her song 'beautifully self-composed'.

We had sabbaticals on move,we had a nomad at heart who has traveled to 80 countries(How lucky!),we had Anuj who came to DTM(Delhi Travelers Meet) all the way from Lucknow,we had Bela who was a part of a gang for not so long, but we enjoyed her presence. We had a tattoo artist,I hope I learn the art someday :). We had Avanish,he's been commenting on my blog since long, and it was great to have him around. We had even someone who missed his first Karate class! We had a mix of all travelers from everywhere under one roof, all set for their next destination or plan. And yes,we even discussed Couchsurfing.

Beyond The Roaring Lions

South Africa is a land of adventure, culture, beauty and wildlife. Before the South Africa Road Show,I had an impression of South Africa as the Jungle Safari in the open, nothing more nothing less.I can visualize,me walking with lions side by side and scared pretending not to be scared.I often dreamt of South Africa as a big beautiful Jurassic Park with the Dinosaurs replaced by the Big 7 species of animals running in the wild while I take out my camera and feel the excitement run through my spine.

While Interacting with folks at South Africa Road Show,Le MeridianDelhi I realized that there is so much more to Africa than the wilderness. The South Africa we know,is different from South Africa today.Just as France isn't just Paris,Africa isn't just Safaris.Africa has evolved beautifully,in ways you would not have imagined. In ways you are yet to discover.

South Africa Creative Art At IITF,Delhi

I met Sherry from the Tourism Board, another great lady who has her own blog on her personal experiences. She shared her world's highest commercial bungee jump experience with me almost making me feel envy of the life across the border.Till now,I had an impression of the Bungees = New Zealand, but when I got to know that the world's highest bridge jump is situated right there in South Africa,I was happily Surprised.

An Interview with Kai Schulz from Canopy Tours,South Africa

A Canopy Tour takes you on an unforgettable adventure as you slide from one platform to the next along a series of steel cables set amongst magnificent natural surroundings. The scenery high up within the forest canopy is spectacular. Enjoy the view from above while taking in waterfalls and spotting birdlife amongst the surrounding trees.Recently Vidya Balan had been to South Africa on her honeymoon, and canopy tours was one of her favourite experience. To know more, watch video

The Delhi Challenge:Are you ready to be part of it?

Video Trailer Delhi

The Love Of Temperature

Aha! The video on Delhi is almost done, but lets just start with a trailer.Delhi is cool,Delhi is hot.Delhi is very very cold,Delhi is very very hot.Well I echo for one simple reason.I never felt it was very cold or never felt it was very hot, because my body is accustomed to temperatures which I can ignore. When I lived in Kolkata,Dec-Feb was the winter season when people really felt cold.I never did. When I lived in Chennai,I admit I felt it to be more hot than Delhi in Summers for the humidity in the air.Parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat can sometimes become unbearable in summer. For some reason or the other I feel Delhi is pleasant pleasant, not that pleasant as Bangalore or Pune but not that extreme as Kashmir,North East or Ladakh in winters and when I say this,I have lived almost two years of my life in Delhi :).

Wearing just a Tee in Snow Clad Kashmir

"It is a fact however that if you are born and brought up in a place, then that place relatively becomes more colder or hotter to you."

The place I remember feeling really cold was Nathula Pass,Sikkim in early Feb.The chilly wind made me appear pink almost. The soldiers were covered and wore caps. The chill wanted me to taste a sip of brandy right away. But I didn't.The elevation was itself a high!

                                                                   Turning Pink at Nathula,Sikkim

The Delhi Challenge

Delhi is ancient.Delhi is historical. Those red stones are part of architecture as much as they are part of our magnificent past. But what if what if if you are not into history? Not everyone is,so lets begin with a challenge where your inputs become a benchmark to youngsters who have no other option than to shop in Delhi.

Lets not exaggerate.Lets accept the fact that you have been to 7 major points in Delhi already (Qutub Minar,Red Fort,Lotus Temple,Humayun Tomb ,Lodhi Gardens,India Gate) and to the 4 popular shopping joints(Lajpat Nagar,Sarojini Nagar,Janpath,Dilli Haat). These are names I have been listening to since childhood.Been to Qutub Minar twice,India Gate many many times and now I do not want to repeat it to everyone who is or will be in Delhi. And yes "how can we forget the gardens - Lodhi, 5 senses etc"

Kolkata is one of the best places for Any Dish Fish

Delhi is the one of the best cities for foodies.Though I find Darjeeling great in terms of western food and cafes all along the mall road.I even find Kolkata too good for street food and fish.If you haven't tried Phuchka in Kolkata, its high time you should.A golgappa that melts in your mouth, and when I say this I mean I have tried Golgapa in Punjab,Delhi,Bihar and other parts of the country. If you are a non-vegetarian,Kolkata is an excellent example of fishes served on your platter fried steamed and wrapped in Banana leaves. If you are a chicken lover,Kolkata is still good with Spices.Going Down,Kerala is also equally great with fishes, but sea food not a fish bred in ponds. The best biryanis are in Hydrabad(we all know) and best paranthas well I find it to be Amritsar.Kashmir for the best Kahwa and Rajma I tasted.Himachal for the apples,Pondicherry for duty free liquor and Karnataka for a mix of everything.

Is Delhi still the right place for you?If yes, help the others explore

Skip the regulars for a change

1)Which are your favorite food joints(Please do not copy from else where) and be original.Tried Karims,Paranthe wali Gali or Kake da Dhaba? If yes, then which and what is your best?

2)I am visiting Delhi for the second time, and I do not want to repeat or regain my historical education? What do I do then?

3)Which is the best bar, best creative cafe and best disc in Delhi? Please do not mention very high end places,we all are normal people with limited budget ain't we?

4)How can Delhi be adventurous for you?

5)What is the one thing that you'd love to change in Delhi and why?

6)Delhi is so symmetrical with style that almost everyone is up to date with fashion.Your favorite fashion joints, favorite dress material, favorite places to go for stitching your dress.Everything

I do not really know why so many questions remain unanswered on net or otherwise.

I take you to the usual because

In the next blog post,I will take you to the usual spots, not all but some. And I leave up to you to help others,in a way that could be beneficial and not a random any database.

You can also contribute guest articles(100 words),which would be merged with the next post,if that's appealing, interesting and helpful.Scratch your minds, your help could make Delhi more colorful to everyone.

Mail me your ideas or post at ankionthemove@gmail.com with subject "I love Delhi because"

Lets do it because if you wouldn't then who would.

A Big Applause for the Delhi Travelers

I am happy that it happened. The Travelers Meet. The travelers from Delhi are sharing their travel plans actively, sometimes pictures, sometimes exchange of numbers even though I might not be available all the time. But they are there,to help each other to travel

A big Claps for the travelers from Delhi

Confession:I am an obsessed Femina Fan

The Femina Pyramid at my home

Femina is part of my life since school, college, breakups, makeups, marriage, style,my gloomy days,my happy radiant days,my bad hair days,my dreams,my inspiration and my travel plans. With a tagline apt for every edition "For the women you are",it is one of the best magazine with quality content that hit the stalls every month.I eagerly wait for the edition to arrive, and when it does,I grab it as fast as I can to not miss stories, ideas and trends.Every night before I sleep,I turn the pages and voila,my sleep turns into a dreamy world of positives. The feeling of  "Yes I can" imbibed in me through various editions of Femina

Femina is my granny who fights for wrong, who tells the world openly the otherwise conservative topics still considered a taboo to discuss in open.A friend who shares the dresses and the good girlie stuff. No matter where I am traveling,I do not forget to get a copy from the nearest railway station stall or the airport lounge.Heaps and bundles of Femina lie in my home, making a pyramid of useful information I love to browse through time and again.Love you Femina

So passionate about Femina I am that I  found a video interview of Tanya Chaitanya, the editor of Femina and her travel plans on youtube, and here it is for all of you to know her :)

 Femina and Me

1)Dreams of Travel:We all dream, some less some more.Femina has made me realize how can dreams be turned into reality.Siting examples of hundreds of successful women in their relative fields,I set my next goal to conquer the world.I have already traveled 25 states in India, and 4 countries abroad, and looking forward with some of these in the next few months.

2)Setting the Stage:I quit my corporate job of 4.5 years, last year with a goal to fulfill my wanderlust with an intention to help people realize that the world is not as expensive and the adventure sports are the new ballgame in India and worldwide.I started my travel adventure blog "ankionthemove.com" a year back, made videos of every place and wrote a first hand experience to help people tread my path.Conducted Traveler's Meet in Delhi and Bangalore to help the travellers connect.Hundreds of appreciation in forms of awards and print media followed. And my source of inspiration, none other than Femina. With the savings of my last job,and practically no such free flow of cash I did what I could have only imagined in my rarest of rare dreams.I now have the courage to take up freelance assignments to get going and explore more countries

I wish to be on Femina someday! That's a dream come true for every women Indian

3)The perfect nude and cut:I admit,I am tomboyish.I hardly apply makeups, but the recent developments like attending events have made me realize how a perfect shade of foundation is not only rare but make you shine through.A foundation need not be ghostly or bizarre.Pixie was something I wanted to sport since long, but never got the boldness to cut short my hair almost 3/4 its length.Last year,I skipped the general questions in my mind "What will my husband and in laws think","how will I look","what if my hair grows untidy" and did what I wanted. The inspiration again "Femina for the make up and hair tips"

4)From Never to Forever:"I never imagined I'll marry my boyfriend who is so different from me".The article is a symphony of my real life experience.Yet I am glad that I didn't marry the conventional husband and we gel up beautifully!

5)Personal Stories that made sense:There are umpteen number of magazines which talk rubbish,Femina deals with issues head on,making sense.I love Femina to be true,to the daily emotions we deal with

6)Dress me up:Cinderellas are for gowns and fairy tales. The ideas and the what's not in to what's in is helpful in ways only an addict Femina reader can tell.Femina helped me evolve in terms of being fashionable

Going on Dona,Bihar

What is the cow staring at ? @ Dona,Bihar

A village is always laid back. A village is where your mobile towers or wifi's aren't that important to substantial living.A village has its own way of making every morning a new beginning.A village is unlike urban where we dwell on our daily routine.A village is to enjoy life as it comes.

A video on my rural + rich adventure in Bihar

"The sweet smell of the Chulha made chicken in the interiors of Dona in Bihar freshly prepared with fragrance that lit up all the senses in a way unimaginable to the otherwise urban me,made me stand up and look closer at the gravy which was as rich. The chapattis were made thin as a paper with Desi ghee. The combination was intense."

I quickly gulped down, one two three four five Chappatis with countless pieces of chicken,a little embarrassed about my new and untold foodiness to guests. But as every villager, they too were happy to serve,as I was more than happy to enjoy every bite.

A breakdown of a car doesn't have to be tragic @ Haryana

Contrary to my otherwise western image, this wasn't the first time we were in a village. The All India Road Trip was my first encounter to the villages of Haryana where we gorged on the thick lassi made of pure curd, curry made of locally grown vegetables and people as sweet as my extended family. No I wasn't in a home stay but an accidental break down of the car made us take a turn midway in the interiors of Haryana where we stayed.

While passing through the fields of Ludhiana,me and my brother posed joyfully in the field still wet with the morning due drops.I often used to think how is it that the fields are maintained, how does it feel to plough how does it feel to cross fields..and my imagination wasn't wrong. They say wishes have a cosmic energy to make things happen and with Dona I did which was a small yet important dream to fulfill.

A past is sometimes beautiful sometimes sad.It was my maid who died an unnatural death at the age of 17.It was her innocence in her words for the passion she had for her village"Ap hamare gaon ana,she used to say, yaha kya rakha hai?".It was her destiny that made her choose the domestic chores,or may be it was her mother. But she always wanted to study, and I made her do that, stealing text books from the lost world of my own educational racks, trying to understand the mathematics once again with her.I admit I had forgotten the tables after 12.I admit that it wasn't easy. But I knew that if she was to succeed or she has the will to,she might one day.She was intelligent to grasp everything quickly.

We discussed black magic, the witches, and the stories of despair from her village,we also discussed her past, and how she was working to save money for her younger brothers. And I thought 17 was young!I must be in my 10th or 11th.We discussed how Punjabis eat,how Marwaris eat and how Biharis eat,it seems she has observed every community minutely. At times, the elders in the family told me to be not that close to the maid.

But whenever I looked in her innocent eyes,it never felt to dishearten her goals or ambitions,or doubt her unfaithfulness. She was from Jharkhand. She died in a year,an unnatural death of which we came to know late. She was on her way to home by train.Since then, her words resonated in my mind to visit at least a village and properly stay once in a lifetime.Though it wasn't solely because of that.As I discussed it was my brother's persistence and my own curiosity to discover my roots.

Nalanda to Dona

The journey from Nalanda to Dona wasn't long,or strenuous. The roads were clear, the roads were beautiful..

In next post,I make you plough the field virtually, running with bulls is a task and how we enjoyed the Thai temple in bodh gaya.Till then tada :)

                                                                                           Along the path

Rashtrapati bhavan is a great treat for monuments and palace lovers, both from outside and inside. I got online permission to visit this Palace from inside, which was far better and grand of what we see from outside.

Thomas Cook is the world's best-known name in travel, all thanks to the inspiration of one single man. In 1841, young Thomas Cook arranged an 11-mile train journey for a motley group of passengers from Leicester to Loughborough. And it marked the beginning of a chapter in history. He went on to introduce a railway tour of Europe. But it wasn't until the early 1860s that he began the travel firm, Thomas Cook & Son, which included tours of the USA. The Company also started operations for military transport and postal services for England and Egypt during the 1880s. The world got around and by the early 1900s, the who's who of the era - kings, politicians, bishops and professors - patronised Thomas Cook's travel itinerary.

What is Kayaking?

First Hand Experience At Recreational Kayaking

Kayaking is the use of a Kayak for moving across water. At Flameback Lodges Mudigere India,I did my first recreational Kayaking in a double seated Kayak.Kayaking and Canoeing are also known as paddling.

Kayak vs. Canoe
To Know more in detail : Wikihow:Difference Between Kayak and Canoe

The difference between Kayaking and Canoeing are the number of people seated in the boat, the paddles and the seating position.

White Water Kayaking : Whitewater kayaking involves taking a kayak down rapids, weirs and waterfalls.

Recreational Kayaking : Recreational kayaking is ideal for individuals looking for a low impact recreational experience that can be done on ponds, lakes and slow moving rivers.

Gud Morning Dear Travelers And Adventure Lovers,

Keeping in mind, that there are so many adventure sports enthusiasts, travelers as well as new genres of youngsters all set to make India and the world happy and safe,I have started with "Monday Candid Interview Mornings" where we grill( ;) ) each of those who made it!

This week we have..

"Neeraj Malve"

Neeraj Malve gets candid with Ankionthemove about all things adventurous and the journey with Bangalore Mountaineering Club(BMC) so far......!!!

Neeraj Malve's(right side)"Sign of Victory" at Everest Base Camp,May 2011

Neeraj Malve

Neeraj Malve is the head of BMC. Bangalore Mountaineering Club was founded on 27th May 2004 as a community based organization for enthusiastic adventurers. BMC organize various adventures like: Paragliding, Scuba diving, Horse riding, Trekking, Rock climbing, Camping, White water rafting etc

Trek To Shingani Gudda, Sept 2009

Can you brief us a little more about what you do?

I am an IT Engineer by profession and passionate adventurer & traveler from childhood who keep seeking opportunities to get away from day to day life to explore the unseen world.

Children's Day Out At Children's day charity event Nov 2010

Tell us something about yourself. What was your motivation behind not choosing a main stream career? What was the reaction of your family and friends when you told them about the business idea? Were they supportive?

Yes I am into mainstream career work as a full time IT Professional. It was never a business idea, I got into it accidentally. From my school days I used to go out on hiking up mountains and forests with friends. When I moved to Bangalore in 2003 I kind of got into “Bangalore way” of stress busters – movies, malls, pubs. But it couldn’t sustain for long. Thirst of mountains and forest was still developing; I had to struggle for one year, as I didn’t get like-minded friends or any club, community to join. That led to birth of BMC. Parents were always encouraging knowing my love towards such activities. BMC gave me few real good friends who not only encouraged but also supported in building the BMC.

                                                                      Sakleshpur Railway Track Trek

What were the problems that you faced in the initial stages of the project and how did you overcome them?

The idea was not well accepted by few of my well-wishers due to risks factors, that helped me take adequate precautions for myself and the group. I used to have language problem in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, but since it’s a group activity we always get volunteers to become a spokes person in respective languages.

In your opinion what is it that makes you different from your competitors?

Our weekend fixed departures makes different from competitors. Our competitors conduct activities but expect clients to make their own groups. Where as BMC welcome even individual to join our programs.

                                                                 Paragliding Training Program : 2007,2009

What’s your vision with regards to travel and adventure?

Making Adventure Tourism reach to common men/women is our vision. Adventure tourism was a lifestyle of particular set of people and in last 9 years we have contributed  a lot to make activities like trekking, camping, scuba diving, paragliding easily accessible to newbies who doesn’t know where and how to  start

Your venture is an inspiration for many people who want to chase their dreams and do what they like even if it is out of their league. What would you like to say to them?

More than having right business model its important to be passionate about the idea. In the initial phase till the venture is self-sustained its important to learn each and every area than being dependent on hired skills.

Women's Day:The Serai Way

“A witty woman is a treasure; a witty beauty is a power.”

Charles Malik in his quotes on Women's Day very aptly said "The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world".The mobilization has to begin in our own corners. We celebrate all the occasions "Father's day,Mother's day,Valentine's day,Brother's day,Sister's day but we seldom celebrate a day to womanhood in spite of us having a women's day.We take it as just another day . Rohita informed a group of bloggers of different genres, that this time she promises us the time of our lives when we celebrate women's day with the most creative women on earth...well ,if not on earth then yes on the land of emerging geniuses in Bangalore. That's when we realized how important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes(which we do) and our she-roes(which we did)!

Bloggers Day Out At The Serai Chikmagalur

Me Drawing after years...after a word of inspiration from Alicia ;)

We were to assemble at the CCD Square near UB City at around 7:30 am on a cool breezy Friday morning. It was my first visit to the CCD Square,a huge CCD outlet across UB City.First came Swapna(Food Blogger) with her two bags,I quickly realized I know her,but not that much, because of the fact that we have had met only once at the Four Seasons Meet.A cute dimple, and yes she was the one who I met before but do not remember.

She quickly glanced through, and was surprised that I just have one school bag while she has two.Later she confessed, its because of the laptop and the camera, that she had to carry another.

Then came Alicia, and I was a little surprised to see another familiar face.I had met Alicia(Illustrator) at Tanishq Mia on Wheels event first time. She had a small box with her,and again it was me who was carrying barely no luggage.I confess,I was at that time thinking "Did I miss something,if everyone's being a fashionista, then I have no clothes that make me look gorgeous,I had clothes which I generally wear, and what if next arrives fashion bloggers all dressed tip to toe like a fashionista".Then came Margeret and Tanisha,we all were more than surprised to have Margeret in our team of bloggers.A 62 year old,and unless she told us her age,we thought she's a charming lady in her 40's.Tanisha(Food + architecture blogger) was equally sweet. Then came Smrithi(Fashion blogger),and wow the third hit,I met her at the Tanishq event before. Then came Imsu(Fashion blogger),Manvi(Fashion blogger) and Rohita and Deepika(organizers). We were in total 10-11 ladies, what a gang.We ordered our breakfast and then we were all set for the journey of 5 hours,to Chikmagalur.

The journey was long,so we slept, watched "Jab we met" and slept again. Some of us,clicked pictures of each other while we were sleeping. Finally the big gate opened and we were there at the Serai. The Serai,at Chikmagalur was an experience in  itself. The welcome was truly refreshing,we were all welcomed with tika on our forehead and garland on us.

We then had a refreshing drink, and we slowly stood up to view the view which we seldom see in India. In front of us was

" A superb view of an infinite pool, the villas resembling huts from a distance, and at the end was the horizon of Chikmagalurian mountains smiling at each of our awestruck faces"

We took a quick around the Serai,to know where is what.At one side was the numerous option of indoor games,at the other side was the spa.At one side was the shop with blings and other things,at other side was the dining area.At one side was the excitement in our hearts,at other side was the surprise.Yes,a surprise, that awaited us beautifully that night. We quickly headed onto our rooms, after a brief introduction and reintroduction to each other. My roommate was Manvi. The moment we opened our room with our keys,we were kind of relaxed.Wow what a place, was on each of our minds. We chose not to speak to each other, for a few minutes, loving each moment that made the place so heavenly.

The huge wash rum was an added bonus. It also had an open shower. In front of our rooms was a separate pool. The place was romantic, incredibly romantic.

The Night Surprise,The Serai Chikmagalur

“A living poem" had always been the words that came to mind when he tried to describe her to others.”

Next was our surprise. What do you call an arrangement done with candles, wines, barbecue and subtle hint of lighting along the poolside. It is one of the beautiful moments, when our giggles, synchronize with every tasty bite of food. Then came the discussion, the cycles, are we all going cycling tomorrow I didn't wanted to,this time,I wanted to be slow and sleepy in my soft cushion bed,and not wake up at 6 to cycle. So I said no,but a few gals did go for their own cycling adventure next morning. When we woke up,I quickly headed onto the next room number to check on the ladies how fun was cycling. And to my surprise 4 of them were in the pool in front of their rooms, chatting and giggling, and discussing random stuff.

We went to have the nutritious breakfast and lunch. This was a pleasant change from the usual. We then went to have our coffee and snacks at the rear end of the resort(a garden with a tent in middle). And then was our chocolate making session.Do you know how to make home made chocolates? We didn't but when we got to know all the process in front of our eyes,it wasn't that difficult. So next time when I have a party at home,I am gonna make my own chocolates ;).Rohita,me,Alicia,Smriti and Swapna,we went to the in house shopping store where Rohita fell for a yellow pair of sandals. The collection was versatile. The day ended on discussion on dogs, cats and other things.Yes,we all have something in common,we are all animal lovers

The Tractor Ride of our Dreams,Chikmagalur

                                                                       A Very Happy Get-together

Next day was our trip to CCD plantations. When we sip our coffee at the CCD outlets,we do not care what goes into the process of the making.A few of the gals did yoga(yes yoga ;) ) in the morning. We then head onto the CCD plantations, and  the most amazing tractor ride till date.I often had a dream of hopping into one of those hay filled Bollywood laden trucks going nowhere. Each one of us hopped into backside of a tractor, and then was the tipsy curvy journey in the plantations spread on the mountains. At one time, was the huge scream on an almost vertical dip,and we almost falling on each other in the truck, the other time,we were busy saving our head from the bushes, leaves and the trees. We then stopped at one of the water holes, and enjoyed crossing and walking the small stream of water.Came back, and we drank the cool nariyal pani. Then was the how to make coffee session from CCD.

The coffee beans are dried and roasted, till it becomes almost black, and gives out a fresh coffee aroma. We then add chicory, and blend. The whole process is very well described in Alicia D Souza's cute illo :).The taste was surprisingly very different and fresh.

We took the same tractor and were back.By this time,we were all tired, and wanted to sleep. But how can we sleep without the dip in the infinity pool. The pool that was blue, the pool that wanted us to be there, inside. So there we all go in the super cool pool..

When you are tired,a spa can only make you feel reborn. And that's what it did.Next was the Oma spa.A wow experience. We went for our dinner, and today we had live music. The gentlemen sang for us songs in Hindi,English,Romantic Songs,Akon songs, and danced. We didn't wanted it all to end,it was just a dreamy world out here, unlike what we live everyday.

Bye Bye Serai,Chikmagalur

Next day was Faiza ready with her camera, all set to click our pictures. Faiza took shots which speaks, every angle measured, every location hunted, and she like a diva, made us all a super diva.We all had our group picture ,and then we all were ready to go into the same old world.

We seldom know people who are famous, perceiving them as famous. But there are some who remain grounded, some who don't speak calculated truths or give fake smiles. They are there, just like us,but famous. One such is Kate Bracks.

The lovely Kate smiling all the way

                                                                                 Kate in a green sari

Kate Bracks was the winner of the third series of MasterChefAustralia, the mother of three children lives in Orange and was previously a school teacher. She's a charming vibrant lady and her expressions speaks the passion for cooking with intensity that can lit several fireworks or may be the kitchenette of India and the world together. For all those who do not know her, lets have a quick recap on her win:

Video on Kate Bracks Masterchef win

It was my rare opportunity to witness the gala event, invited by Sameeksha and Seema as part of media invite. So I was there, standing in front, taking pictures all the way from the start to the end.Inorbit mall,Bangalore was where the event was happening. That was where I met Praveen from Wooplr,an online shopping recommendation website.I have fallen in love with Wooplr several times, and whenever I think about my shopping needs or where to shop,I look around wooplr with search as "Bangalore" and whoa,I get real recommendations on where to buy what and for much!Earlier I used to ask my friends, but now with the technology things have become simpler, easier.

Kate Bracks came at around 5 in a resplendent green sari, all bubbly and jovial with the new garment she was wearing. She told it isn't that difficult to carry a sari, rather easy and she is loving it.Then was the introduction of the chef and later the program commenced.

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

I secretly wanted to steal every recipe of her,and try and test in my small Kitchen. She spoke like a professor in cooking, she knew what we get in India, what we don't.So if we don't get hazelnuts,we can add almonds, peanuts accompanied by their respective oils. She knew what to do to make a dish delicious and what to do when the bottom of the baking pan burns(it happens with cakes, lot of time ;)). She knew everything which an expert cook would know, but contrary to some of us who are born with a passion of cooking, she wasn't. She developed the passion with the support of her husband and her children and her mother.

Here's a sweet peek-a-boo into her journey to Master chef and her visit to India, her comfort food, how she handles pressure, and how she tried Halwa. She's also an inspiration to those who do not fill up contest forms, thinking they won't win.People win when they really put their hearts into it and the live example is Kate Bracks.

At the end of the event, was the cool question answer round session where some of the lucky few got a chance to put forward their questions and received gift hampers. One lucky person won a weekend stay for two at the luxury hotel.

In 2012 she released her first cookbook “The Sweet Life”.

Here's a quick glance through what she says about her cookbook.

During the event, Mr. Indraneel Majumdar, General Manager of Inorbit mall said “Nothing can be better than hosting an international celebrity, especially a MasterChef. I am glad Kate could come to Inorbit mall and give some basic culinary tips to people who are passionate about cooking. Cooking is an art and Kate has brought an international artistic flavor to the mall and to the audience. I am delighted that she was able to engage our mall visitors with her infectious enthusiasm.”
