Reaching Thimpu

After having our lunch at hotel Druk,we started our journey towards Thimpu. We had rented  a car,for us,it was as economical as a bus as we were 4 people. And with the car,we had our liberty to stop and click pictures where ever we felt like. The journey was well worth it.However, for people travelling alone, bus would prove to be more budgeted option. It takes around 7 hours to reach Thimpu. The roads were all in good condition but mountainous. There wasn't any plain road before reaching Thimpu. For folks who suffer from mountain sickness, please do take your medicines.

There is a small stream of water or a narrow waterfall on the road.We did stop for 10-15 minutes to get our pics clicked.Just opposite to this waterfall,we have another, but at a distance we can never reach. The fall looks huge, though its covered with thick forests and certainly not accessible. There are two checkpoints, along this road.We stopped at hotel Damview for our afternoon staple. From the backside of hotel dam view is the dam.The food here is not that great. We had ordered noodles, but it was very oily and heavy to our stomach. The owner's small naughty kid kept us busy,as with every guest who was entering the hotel,he was the first one to say "Hi".There is also a highest point of Phuentsholing-Thimpu road on the way.Have you ever seen a green river?Well if you haven't so far,you would on this road, the color of the river is green due to forests all around ..and it looks beautiful,it changes color to the normal old blue when we see less of trees.

While we were travelling by the car on the Phuntsholing-Thimpu,our driver stopped midway many times to get the local datse(cow's milk cheese) as it's very common in bhutan to make datse with chillies as their popular dish.It tasted like paneer but sour.According to him,the datse at the roads are more fresh and his wife liked it.Also,we saw a very striking rotating prayer wheel in front of his car, which was rotating continuously, with solar energy. He told us we get it for Rs 250 in Phuentsholing,at Thimpu it'll be costly.

Once you have traveled the 6 hours in Bhutan, you see the huge Thimpu gate, just along the checkpoint. That's a very common point where people click their pics.Next we enter the great city,a city unperturbed by life, but that doesn't deter it from commercialisation. The city has no traffic lights,is clean to the core, and so different from India. There are strict rules and people abide by it.In my stay of 4-5 days,I never found it to be overcrowded or even crowded for that matter.People are smartly dressed,a place so near to India, and yet gives an international feel. For stay in Thimpu,Hotel Tandin on Norzin Lam (Road in Dzongkha), which is the main market place of Thimphu is the best bet.The room tariff is usually 700/- +10% tax. The room has wall to wall carpet, two single beds, a two-seater sofa, a cupboard, a colour television and a dressing table. The Indian food served here is excellent.Tuesday is a dry day in Bhutan, though you can enjoy liquor at all other days.In peak season, they usually hike the price,so its better to bargain if possible.

For further travel and permits to Punakha you need to go to the Immigration Office at the end of Norzin Lam towards the Tashichho Dzong. From Hotel Tandin to Immigration Office,it takes 60 Rs by taxi. For permits, they require a photocopy of the Thimpu permit, which can be done from  photocopy cum stationary shop just opposite the Bhutan Development Bank.It takes around 1-1.5 hours to get your permits done.We did it,on our first day visit to Thimpu.

Some interesting facts about Bhutan and their Food

-The most popular drink is sud-ja (tea served with salt and butter).
-Cheese is a very popular ingredient in dishes and the most popular cheeses are datse (cow’s milk cheese), often served in a dish with fresh chillies (emadatsi).
-Another favourite is mushroom and chilli with cheese.
-Look out for the excellent Red Rice!
-Unusual ingredients such as nettles, ferns and orchids may also appear in traditional Bhutanese vegetarian dishes.
-Bhutan's alcoholic drinks include chang (brewed from fermented cereals) and arra, which is stronger and distilled from either rice, barley or wheat.

After Marriage Friends

$

0

I recently read an article on Internet which said "I want to get married, but I am afraid of losing my friends. I know of many people who have lost their friends after being married. Please explain to me why people, especially women, lose their friends after marriage?"

How much ever frustrating it may sound,it's true, and every word of it.Unless you go out and shout to the world and prove every time,it's difficult to retain friends, specially of the opposite sex. They might be your 4 am friends before but after marriage, forget 4 am,they would never ever bother to call up.Do people change and if they do,why so?

Marriage is a wonderful thing and so is friendship. Not every friendship end up in a DDLJ love story and nor every guy in your life is worth getting married to.Chances are you might love a person to be "just friends".This is so typical Indian, that "ek ladka and ladki kabhi friends ni ho skte",but I've found that in many cases the opposite perspective of a guy helps or broadens your own.We may be,best friend with a girl or a good friend with a guy or vice versa. The choices should not depend on your marital status ,but unfortunately it does.

It has lot to do with your interest and lot to do with other person's perspective, also lot to do with how your spouse reacts to it.You might be an easy to mingle person, but your other half would not like it,leading to jealousy and marital tension. Most of the the time jealousy is vague,we are spoonfed to believe things which hardly exists.Cummon not everyone is as raunchy as PC in fashion, you know what I mean.Sometimes the topic of conversation changes to the usual household and children, why on earth do you think the guy would be interested.Diaper talk are the least interesting on earth.

Of course, when I say that I don't mean children are bad. They are the best thing to happen, but not necessarily the best topic of conversation.Recently a few of my friends called me up,and when I blasted them on "where on earth",they had the same old reply as "we thought you were busy".It irritates me to the core, when being married is termed as being busy.Yes,I might be busy, but not necessarily hugging and sticking round together, but to other things as well.I might be busy in my work,I might be busy in meeting,I might be busy as well elsewhere. It's tough to make others understand, and even tougher to make others realise, because marriage is not just honeymoon. Why on earth, every friend has this rosy picture on their head, when it comes to marriage? And if marriage is all about walking down the aisle with your friends and then forgetting them, then what's friendship? We live in a world, which is biased and living in their own world of preconceived notions.Notions which seem to be modern, yet are back to the grandpa's era.

Another very interesting topic of conversation is "You are lucky, you have got a great hubby, you do what you want to,you are going alone there, where's your hubby!"Funny it is,I feel the urgent need to put a pepper spray on the other person's eyes.Dumbo,I haven't lost my limbs to marriage, and if I can travel on my own before marriage, what difference does it make after marriage.Do I get more insecure,or I need a person to protect of so called evils all of a sudden? And being able to do what you want to do after marriage, requires a great level of understanding which can only be achieved through open talk, and not being a shy coy house wife.I do things, because I fought for it.You can too.As much as it's being in marriage,it's also about what do you want. It's about your own perspective to life, for me,doing things I love gives me a sense of freedom, and I don't want to regret later that I haven't done something I wanted to because I got married. That is a terrible excuse,I wouldn't want to live my life with,as simple as that.

It's stupid, when people hold grudges.A girl might be your best friend and got married to someone else and vice versa. And so,you bury your feelings, and plan to distance yourself from the emotional atyachar. It's an escape most people do,and they show to the world how adventurous they are.Sports doesn't make you brave, but your mind does. And if you by any chance, choosing the road of escape, you are not brave.Face the world, and as much as you are beautiful so is the other person in your friend's life.Life's too short to grudge on competitions..!

Marriage doesn't mean that your friends are my friends and my friends are yours.Sometimes it does, when you have get together. But other times, its great to be with a friend you can share your unbiased opinions with.

..and hell no,being with a friend doesn't mean that my marital chord is all set to break, and I have come here to shed tears or rekindle my relationship. There are better things to do in life, and better talk to have.It hurts when people change.

As Roopz has pointed out in the comment,I do miss my female friends as well, but not that much because touch wood, some of my female friends are still there in my life. Some got carried away. But I do miss many of my friends. As for the female friends I miss the all gal shopping I used to do,now its more of he's my husband, let's meet up at home.Give me a break! It's good once in a while, but not every time for sure.

All relationships require maintenance to stay alive. If this isn’t happening, plan to move on. First take the time to mourn the loss of a friendship. Then make new friends that suit your lifestyle and treat you reciprocally.

Why regret a friend, who doesn't care who you are!

"Hussey,Hussey",Hussey smiles back and waves to the crowd. We were excited, the IPL Finals 2012 at Chennai Ground, was at full swing, and being at the front seats,me and my brother was at their vocal best.Shouting,Jumping.Dancing.Little did we know that we all in some ways share a Melbourne Connect.

The girls of "Chak De India" are completely in awe of the "Foreign" location so are we.The power girls are walking through Melbourne City Centre, the team is running through "Webb Bridge" in Practice Sessions and world cup matches are shot at State Netball Hockey Centre."My Dil Goes Hmm" when I see Preity Zinta dancing in her shoes at webb bridge in "Salaam Namaste",while both the actors dance to their best title track in the blue seas "Rye Beach in Mornington Peninsula" .They live near GOR.Who can forget Saif Ali Khan dancing in the musical town with street musician.Preity craves for chocolate ice cream in the middle of the night, and Saif takes her to crown casino.Chocolates and casino are a heady mix,I would love to experience. All the while,if you must be thinking, what's so great about Melbourne, haven't you seen it all in the movies,it's got everything, the best beaches, the best casinos, the best grounds and the best cultural and musical blend. And if you think I am being two poetic,Melbourne is one of the places which can truly make you one.

So when we had this indiblogger contest on Melbourne,I was thrilled.Prizes,awesome. Vacation to the most livable city in the world,is just wow. Then I read the topic "what would you like to do in Melbourne?",its a tough contest. I haven’t been to Melbourne before, but would love to.I don't have anyone living in Melbourne  to have a little discussion on Melbourne.Based on my search on google,I came up with this article and my wish to do list.

Here's what I really wish to do in Melbourne:

Melbourne is magical. There are 35,000 Indian students enriching Multi-cultural base and 60,000 Indians who visit Melbourne every year.Do you ever think of why?

Watch the self made video which represents Melbourne-India Connect And My 4 days itinerary.Watch in full screen for better clarity :)

When we were young,we always had the letter K as Kangaroos in our alphabet books and we wonder where on earth do we find such cute creatures with a pouch in front. We grew up with balloons at our birthday parties, and never got a chance to ride one.The sands of Jaisalmer/Jaipur/Ranthambore in India have the hot air balloons, but the experience of hot air balloon over Melbourne is unparallel.Melbourne and India both share a passion for cricket.Melbourne & trams are a pair. The cultural capital of India,Kolkata was once famous for the city trams. Kolkata had organized Tram jatra in association with Melbourne to preserve the old trams running in their cities.Fed Square in Melbourne buzzes with cultural functions any time of the year.Fed Square reminds us of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai. When we celebrate Diwali,Durga Puja and Independence Day in India,Fed Square celebrates with us too. When we shop for our daily needs in the local market in India for fresh vegetables and stalls,Melbourne shops at the night market at Queen Victoria in summer and they have 35 stalls and an Indian one too.The aboriginals from Melbourne, don’t they look so similar to the dravidians in India? If you are a girl like me,who loves shopping, you might have heard of a brand called “FOREVER NEW” in India.Do you know its Melbourne too.Spas are the best for relaxation and what better than Mornington Peninsula, and if you are availing the ayurvedic spa there, you’d know a part of Kerala is all there. We jump and play casinos, and we know the nightlife and party are so similar to our very own Goa.The Dhabas at St.Kilda beach reminds us of our very own dhabas in Punjab.

Both Melbourne and India share the same Indian Ocean. Most kitchen cupboards contain a tin of curry powder and a box of Darjeeling tea.Ask the ladies there,we are so similar. In Melbourne they wear paisley ties, our men in India wear them too. When we pray we use incense, and do yoga as they do. Our past is victorian so are the counties. We speak queen's english.Melbourne is meeting point and so is Mumbai. We also celebrate Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in Mumbai. Did you know?Indian Film Festival was celebrated In Melbourne and A Guinness Book of Records was awarded Largest Bollywood Dance Class, On the banks of Yarra River.Did you know? A user-friendly Study Melbourne website was created in Hindi
We know nothing connects the youth more. The best of two is out there seems like we've got a great connect, yet to be explored.

/*The above information is more based out of Google search and a few on online interaction with ladies from Melbourne settled in india(curry powder, incense, tie). The video is self made and it took me a week to edit and shoot with my cam as I am no professional, but I guess it conveys the message. The music used in the video is royalty free.*/

With my 4 days itinerary I’ve tried to not only include what are so similar, but also enjoy what makes it so spectacular and altogether different. And what do I bring back?Beautiful memories in the form of photos and videos for my blog, and lots of small little gifts for near and dear ones.As the itinerary is based on my imagination, understanding and from the google searches,I cannot say it would be perfect,so the best is to leave it to the tourism board to decide how practical it would be.

MELBOURNE AND MY 4 DAYS ITINERARY

Day1:     Bangalore-Melbourne is a journey of 15 hours, even though I would be all happy and jumping with excitement on discovering a new place altogether,I know in some ways I would be part of the time change and the jet lag. So,I take my luggage, relax for as long as I can on day one and take it all slow.
Today we take the hot air balloon ride. The flight is for an hour and takes us through array of parks and gardens along with Eureka Tower, and iconic sporting venues like the MCG and Albert Park Racetrack. Federation square is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Melbourne.I would love to be part of any of the festivals.Next we visit the Federation Wharf where you can see the beautiful Yarra river. How can we miss the river that practically flows through Melbourne? As we are right next to the Yarra river and we take a short walk to Southbank, the Library, shopping, Ian Potter Centre, ACMI: Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Champions: Australian Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, SBS studio, National Design Centre and the Melbourne Visitor Centre.

A River cruise to the port town of Williamstown is a great way to see the sights of the Yarra River. So we go Williamstown and back.

As Flinders Steet Station is located near Fed Square and is a transport hub,we take a free tram ride to discover the city.In fact Melburnians love this place so much that they have made this a meeting place or as they say to "meet under the clocks" or "meet at the stairs.

Casinos sounds so huge, and so vegas!Having said that,I have never been to one,and thanks to all the James bond movies,Crown Casino sounds too cool to be ignored.Food halls, shops, obvious gambling, great clubs/bars,huge cannons which shoot massive fire balls into the sky are all the attractions of Crown Casino.

We end up our day at St Kilda, heard it's like California with those long beaches walk and palm trees. The best way to relax in the evening,do some shopping and have great food. Then we hit the prince of wales nightclub at St.Kilda, and dance to the tunes of music. If I am lucky, and if I go during the time of Christmas/New Year,I wouldn’t want to miss a concert in Melbourne.

Day2:     The Great Ocean Road is 160 miles of breathtaking scenery. The Great Ocean Road starts about an hours drive from Melbourne in the town of Torquay, and stretches along way down the coast to Geelong. On the way it takes in some stunning
Coastal scenery (12 Apostles,Bells Beach)
Some quaint seaside towns (Torquay, Lorne,Apollo Bay and Port Campbell)
Long deserted sandy beaches (Anglesea, Lorne)
Amazing wildlife at ToweHill Estate Game Reserve (Koalas, Parrots, Kangaroos)
Rainforest & Waterfalls(Otway rainforest)
Caves & Seals(Cape Bridgewater)
Fishing Village(Port Fairy)
Whale Watching(Warrnambool)
Canoe(Lake Elizabeth)
Arch(London Bridge)

I would absolutely love to experience the myriad of colours of the water, the weathered cliffs and rocks and the wildlife. If time permits,Eight-minute helicopter tours over the Twelve Apostles, is also on my list and so is the zipline over rainforest.

Day3:     Time for some penguin action.Philip island has always been synonymous with those cute little penguins. Koalas are also too sweet to pass by,so a visit to Maru Koala and Fauna Park, a wildlife park where I can mingle with kangaroos, emus, cockatoos, dingoes and wombats and eventually, a koala conservatory is all we need.

I've already started shopping for woollens to beat the cold at the Philip island, people say there are no shelters. While returning we visit the Philip Island Race track, local vineyard and The Gurdies Winery at Dandenongs and finally with beautiful memories of new found animals we go to sleep for another day of fun filled adventure.

Day4:    Today’s my last day.So It has to be special.I start my day snorkeling with dolphins at Sorrento, Mornington Peninsula.Ever since I had seen those beautiful multicoloured bath huts, along the beach at Mornington on the Melbourne tourism website, its on my mind.So we click some pictures with the hut at the backdrop of the calm sea,  then take an hour's ride with harley davidson tours of Melbourne. Then shop at victoria market for souvenir, visit the RAAF museum for old aircrafts and MCG for the cricket ground.

We,Indians are gold lovers. So I go to Sovereign hill for magical display of gold, and if time permits, would love to be part of the gold mine tours and other activities. We end our visit in Melbourne at the tallest skyscraper,Eureka Tower.Bye bye Melbourne.

Here are the list of top 50 things I would love to do in Melbourne if I ever get a chance to settle there ;)

/*The above information is based out of Google search. The video is self made. The photograph used above is inkified. The music used in the video is royalty free.*/

The imagination becomes a reality, when I get the most awaited call “You are selected”.I rub my eyes to believe what I heard.I pack my luggage to board the plane, still living in my most imagined itinerary. The crew smiles, and and says, welcome aboard, …it's your time to visit Melbourne NOW!

BUDAPEST
/*The below is a made up story of two male buddies, one living in Budapest and the other just arrived*/

Hey Bud,wat's up?
I got a Pest(Bud-a-pest) in the underground house.
Well, why don't you take a thermal bath, soaked with medicinal properties.
How good is that?
The packaged mineral water we take,is filled up at one of those streams ;)
Oh really!
There are also over 100 springs that have been enjoyed by many of the patrons and visitors of Budapest since the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire..and they are Cleopatra?
No,she was greek, but these springs are good for your skin and you become better writer too at Budapest.
Are you nuts,writer and me?
If you touch the pen of the Anonymous statue, that sits in the park just near to Heroes’ Square then it’s said it will make that person a better writer. And a writer with a great skin is popular with the girls..wink wink ;).
Hell man! Gotta go catch the train.
You are at the right place, catch the underground train system at Budapest.
Is everything under-ground?
Nah.Not everything.Hey I forgot, for the pest infection, why don't you get yourself examined at Underground Military Hospital.
Ha,now that's new?Underground hospital..
The wax figures are really close to reality and old song played at the big hospital room is really touching.
I am a little hungry...

Well to that I must say, there's a Hungarian saying: There's no such part of an animal which can't be eaten. This saying is very true for the following meals.

Pacal - Tripe (Beef stomach) stew , Kocsonya - Pork bits in jelly,Zuzapörkölt - Gizzard stew,Körömpörkölt - Pork feet stew,Szalonna - Smoked pork fat.

Which one would you dare to try?
Something simple but different
Then try these..

Zsiroskenyer -It's contents are freshly sliced bread, spread with goose or pork fat, salt, paprika and slightly cut red onion.

Szekelykaposzta -Székelykáposzta is a stew mixed with sauerkraut and sour cream but the meat portion is lethal: Pork stew, often with knuckle or szalonna in it (see Szalonna below), onions, paprika, pepper, chili, cumin and bay leaves.

Langos-Lángos is a deep fried dough. It is eaten warm and most commonly served with sour cream and grated cheese and rubbed with garlic, garlic butter, or doused with garlic water.

Bundaskenyer -This is a savoury breakfast food, usually served with garlic, sour cream and salt
Hortobágyi palacsinta-Hortobágyi palacsinta is a savoury Hungarian crape filled with minced meat, then the ends are tucked in.

That's interesting and different from rest of the world.Let's go!

I want to visit Budapest because I want to explore the undergrounds, have great skin with the thermal baths, have food that's so unique and made of stuff I would never get to have backhome, and of course be a better writer :).If there are marathons at that moment, would love to take part. And parties, how can I miss them!!!

PRAGUE
/*The below is a made up story of a guy living in Czech and his girlfield just arrived in Prague*/

Welcome To The Fairyland dear
All set for "I Do"?
Where in Prague?I got my Prada
Old Town Hall Or The New Town Hall
Whichever you choose
Not before I have a pint of beer
Gambrinus,Kozel’s Medium or Pilsner Urquell?
Ah..what are those
Back home I have kingfisher and fosters.
Czech regard beer as a national treasure
And they are the best
Music for our celebrations?
Czech has many local musical talents
And the jewellery?
The ancient and magical pseudo science of alchemy – turning minerals into gold – was a hugely popular fashion amongst the elite in Prague during the Middle Ages.
That's so out of the world.
So what is typical for Czech food?
Lunch is the main meal of the day in the Czech Republic
Fried Cheese(Smazeny syr) & palacinka(a pancake)
and How can we forget the sweet fruit dumplings
Czechs say before any meal: „Dobrou chut!“ means I wish you to enjoy your meal!“.
Dobrou Chut wink wink ;)
I heard prague has beautiful castles
Yes,the prague castle
Travel back 1000 years,
I bet You wouldn't need a time machine
Any shows here?
Puppets
Aint they for kids
Nah,out here, just marvel at the puppet masters
at Divadlo Minor  or buy a puppet for yourself at Truhlář Marionety.
Parties?
The Savarin Casino has candelabras and Baroque frescoes as well as American roulette and stud poker.

Sounds great,lets get married.

I want to visit Prague because of beer. Here in our place we get very few variants. It's either Kingfisher or Fosters.Love the pancakes and the music.Who knows I might return as one of the well known musicians ;) And not to forget the splendid architecture, very few men know, gals are fond of fairyland, and this one seems to be just perfect for me.

VIENNA
/*The below is a made up story of two old age buddies, one living in Vienna and the other just arrived*/

Hugs,Hugs
How have you been?
Good.
I heard Vienna is one of the most romantic cities in the world,
The guy from the plane told me
Not for us wink ;),but for us
too there are so many things to do.
What do you do here?
I teach history
Ah..my favorite subject
And is Vienna historical?
Schonbrunn Palace,Hofburg Imperial Palace
Heldenplatz,Leopold Museum
Are the most interesting architecture
I have ever seen
Hmm,you have been so lucky?
Not so far,now that you are here
Time to have some fun together
Where do we go?
Cruise along river Danube
And visit the Danube islands
For the floating pubs
And sing along and be merry
Wow,and then like our young age
we hit another pub
Nah..we go to Vienna Boys Choir
We are not boys anymore wink ;)
grow up dude
Well then we go opera
a-a-a-a-a
Or we go have some pastries and cakes
or coffee or hot chocolate
I feel I am young again
Ready to go!

I want to visit Vienna because of amazing food I wouldn't want to miss.Would love to have the pastries and cakes and the river cruise. It's the best place to be merry...

I could google all the places in Budapest,Prague and Vienna and make a list of to dos but I want to visit Budapest,Prague and Vienna to experience all the three essence of life, the newness, the excitement, the parties and food just like the characters above.Let the good times roll soon;)

The Priyanka And Ranbir Excitement

$

Shopping has its own benefits.Just saw Ranbir,Priyanka And Illeana,up close and real at Phoenix mall and waved hands with Ranbir...Oola la la..How many of you were there in the mad rush?I still can't believe I stood there for 3 and half hours shouting and screaming, and of course waiting for the Barfi crew. Here's the first glimpse. All was worth it,never thought Ranbir would wave hands and I would be the lucky few to touch it giggles ;)

Today's my another lucky day.In the morning I had some work in the Phoenix Mall,so I thought I would rather go.When I went there, there were small hoardings of Priyanka,Ranbir and Illeana coming to Phoenix at 4.There was so much time, that I thought I'll do my work and go back. But destiny had planned something else for me..

Along with the small banners was another "Shop for Rs 2000 and get a chance to click pictures with Ranbir and Priyanka".Imagine my excitement,I did know for sure that If I would shop then that would definitely be more than 2k,I buy in bulk, even though it's of no use,and it's been months I have done any serious shopping.

And as luck would have it,I got the best clothes for trial.I bought 4 of them.Planning to start my own fashion blog, not a bad idea either, sometimes I shop like maniac. And then I went to the counter,I got the bill of 2k,now what?Unfortunately the offer was for anyone who buys from reliance trend and more than 2k, was not mentioned anywhere on the boards..these clever people, watever!

But then,I saw the whole railing getting filled up fast.I thought it's just 1.30,why are people getting lined up.Then I saw another board,Ranbir and Priyanka at 2.Wow,I had to move fast, you know in India,if you don't create your own space, people jump and create theirs. So I scanned the whole railing,I wanted to have the first hand glimpse, not standing behind and trying to see whatever comes. But there was no space. And then I did spot one space for one person.I requested the other person to shift, but he was reluctant,he told his friend is coming,so I got another place requesting someone else.

It's simple but it's not the end.A group of folks came by,college goers and my best entertainers for next 3.5 hours. They said in a hush hush tone, you know we had a talk with the organisers there,it's gonna start at 4.I felt like running away, but where to run.Everywhere there were people behind me there were 6 lines..shit!

I had skipped my breakfast today for I was too lazy and I was going to skip my lunch, because there I was stuck in the first row..Kind of trapped. But the guys and gals next to me were awesome.Inspite of pushing and pulling, these guys and gals were my best support, though I never knew them I had a great conversation. And then came the host 'We are gonna have 5 questions, whoever answer's correctly gets to pose with the barfi crew.Ouch..only if we knew the answers, and only if I had a better phone with a better google.Anyways, the quiz part was fun..

But then slowly the crowd started increasing more and more.It was a spectacle to see people lined up across the railing of several floors of the mall. There were many bouncers, police, and people ready with their lathis. As we were all leaning to the support of the railing, the top and the upper floors, were consistently told to not lean and police men were there. But for us,no police.Glad.But then 4 turned to be 5,at 5 a host from radio came and with her all the zing and the fun.But we were tired,I was because I had no food,I was in the same position for last 3 hours, and there was lot of pushing and pulling.Surprisingly I was not the only one, everyone was.

But then at 5:45  Priyanka,Illeana and Ranbir came we had the highest pitch energy and we jumped and shouted like anything. What an incredible moment. They were awesome.

And before this I never got a chance to see any star so close, and Ranbir is my favourite,he's so natural..

Black Dog Scotch Tasting

“There is no bad whiskey. There are only some whiskeys that aren't as good as others.”
― Raymond Chandler

Life is all about trying new things, and sometimes what you know at present is far more naive than what you might learn afterwards. We by now know wine and food pairing,do we know Scotch whiskey and food pairing, sounds real new isn't it?I know most of us never bother to pair the right food with whiskey, but I personally liked the dark chocolates with the 18 year old Black Dog.

“Whisky is liquid sunshine.”- George Bernard Shaw

Habanero is a place where the food is awesome, everything right from the starters to the main course,to the dessert.I am a big fan and when Akshay and Sumath told me about the Black Dog and the Food Pairing event at Habanero,I was so excited that I left my film making class early to join the fun.

Hah,what a relief to see some familiar faces, and some new ones as well. The session started with general "hi wat's up tone",and this time, everyone opened up to their own tales.Every session makes us more free and less formal. That's the beauty,of being in a group event, all thanks to Ginger Claps.

“Whiskey, like a beautiful woman, demands appreciation. You gaze first, then it's time to drink.”
― Haruki Murakami

Scotch is never boring. If you drink it,and follow no hard and fast, you'd still be happy. But probably more happy if you know whiskey has a smell and a taste of its own.Black Dog has a smell which is fresh, and right from the start you can guess the ingredients, well it's not something you can try making at home, but there are tinge of spices, oak, vanilla and chocolate. The best way to taste whiskey is to add a spoon of water to whiskey,so that the aroma opens, and when you smell it again,it smells more rich.Next is to swish it around your mouth and let it go slow. You would feel the warmth go down the throat, but definitely this whiskey is not heavy and very smooth. Thanks to Mr. Mohit Nishchol for letting us know the right way to have the drink of happiness.

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.”
― Mark Twain

There are three types of Black Dog Whiskey

1) Black Dog Centenary Scotch Whisky

Black Dog Centenary is a rich and rare premium blended Scotch whisky loaded with exceptional characters. It is blended to perfection with a multitude of malt spirits chosen from the various regions of Scotland.

Tasting Notes

Colour : Amber with golden highlights.

Aroma : Matured wood, toasted malt, mild honey sweetness, delicate
butterscotch bordering on cream, with floral nuances that emerges at the end.

Palate : Robust body, pronounced rich malt and oak and sherry sweetness,
spreads warmly in the mouth like silent sea waves.

Black Dog 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky

Black Dog is a blend of fine whiskies from all the regions of Scotland - Speyside,Islay, Highlands and Lowlands, each matured for a minimum period of 12 years creating a bouquet that captures all the flavours of Scotland, giving Black Dog its very distinctive flavour and taste.

Tasting Notes

Colour : Amber, with golden highlights.

Aroma : Robust malty, mellow woody, complex yet delicate aroma of sherry and
vanillic sweetness with whispers of soft peatiness in the background.

Palate : Beautifully rounded, heavy body, pronounced malty, mellow woody, fruity
sweetness with teasing light warm peat.

Finish : Luxurious and exciting, long and warm with a touch of cream.

Black Dog 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky

Black Dog 18 Year Old is a rare blend for those who’ve developed a taste for the finer things in life. They take pride in knowing the difference between the fine and the penultimate. And, more importantly, take time to savour their choicest indulgences, leisurely.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep, golden, glossy and mahogany.

Nose: A truly noble bouquet of luscious malty tones and rich velvety textures with a hint of oloroso sherry in the background.

Taste: Round and mellow complex quixotic flavours with an impeccable balance of individual malt and grain whiskies and silky soft tones that dance on the tongue.

Finish: Luxuriously smooth and long, a testament to the malt & grain whiskies which have spent years in oak casks & vats.

Black Dog Quintessence 21 Years old Scotch Whisky

The Black Dog 21 years old is indeed pure liquid gold.Hand crafted to meticulous perfection by our Master
Blender. Only 25 of the finest single malts and grain whiskies have been drawn from the Highland region
of Scotland, in particular from the beautiful Speyside

Tasting Notes

Colour – intense amber gold with shimmering highlights

Nose – a harmony of delight orchestrated by a multitude of seductive aromas immediately arouse the
senses. Soft peaches and ripe citrus fruits coupled with pear, marzipan and bergamot begin this flirtatious
fanfare. The aged malt whiskies from the Speyside valley make their own inimitable contribution by adding that distinctive charm and finesse. Velvet and smooth. The hand of time in the finest sherry wood has weaved its magic spell to perfection.

Taste – bold and magnificent. This outstanding blend must be given the reverence and respect it richly
deserves. For twenty one years these aged single malts and grain whiskies have remained dormant in our
cold dark warehouses before they were finally blended together by our master Blender. Therefore the spirit
must be held long on the palate for at least twenty one seconds to awaken its many hidden attributes. Like
a rare masterpiece it will reveal its inner beauty. It’s inner world. Intense flavours of Seville oranges, ripe
sweet mangoes and ginger spice reward the palate, then whispers of bitter chocolate, liquorice and crushed
almonds drift lovingly on.

The Black Dog 12 year old has also been awarded a silver medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an organization recognized by the European Union, which conducts annual competition for various spirits and wines manufactured all over the world.

Before this event,I had never tasted whiskey neat, either it had to be with Sprite or Cola. But Black Dog has a taste, which is suited to every palate. Finally we were all awarded a certificate of appreciation, yohoo!!!!

“Love makes the world go round? Not at all. Whiskey makes it go round twice as fast.”
― Compton Mackenzie

We started when it was blue skies around, and now the whole night was sparkling with the golden shimmer of HABANERO and the ever ready bar!It was 7:30pm,time to leave. What a lovely evening!

Chahe jaese bhi ho Zindagi
Kuch Jaga Happy Hours ki tara hoti hai khushhal hamesha
Un barish ki boondo me bhi ek maja hai
Zindagi kisne kaha hai ek saza hai
Kasauli sab ko bulati hai
Un vadiyo ki sannate ko sunati hai!
To chalo hum bhi kare tara rum pam pam
Kasauli mere,Gaurav and Doggy ke sang :) - Anki S.

English Translation:

However good or bad the life is,
Some places are always cheerful like Happy Hours
There is fun in those drops of  rain
Who said life is a pain
Kasauli calls everyone
The valleys speak the silence
So come all,we do tara rum pam pam(dance),
Kasuali with
Gaurav,the Dog and me :)

Dog's are man's best friend, diamonds are girl's.Being a nomad traveller,I would anyday exchange Diamonds with a place, however small it may be.One such Jewel in the hills is Kasauli.Kasauli is where the man's best friend is my best hike mate.Do dogs trek?Do dogs hike?We know dogs bark for sure.We read the sensational and notorious dog bites everyday in our local Bangalore newspaper. But ain't they cute otherwise?Gear for more doggy days ahead while I take you though lanes and bylanes of Kasauli

Why Kasauli?

1)Delhi was unbearably hot as usual, and Kasauli was cold.
2)Kasauli also because last time when I was there,I preferred sleeping in my cosy little hotel. This time it was the time to explore, discover and have some fun.

How To Reach?

By Train:The closest rail head is Kalka, which is about 40 km away from Kasauli. Prepaid taxis costs about Rs 750 from Kalka to Kasauli. Kalka is very well connected with all major cities in India like Amritsar, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

By Air:The closest airport is at Chandigarh, which is 70 km away. Taxis are available to Kasauli from Chandigarh costing about Rs 1,500.

By Bus:State owned transport buses connect Kasauli to many cities in and around Himachal Pradesh. Super fast and super deluxe buses have stop at Kasauli, which are plying from Chandigarh and Delhi to other major cities in the state.

Kasauli-The Eco Friendly Place

Kasauli is one of the most eco friendly town in India.A place where a path leads to trail and a trail leads to a beautiful unknown.A place which is clean and green,an ideal example of how every place in India should be.There are boards everywhere in Kasauli with go green slogans and even the dustbins are painted green. As Kasauli is an Army Cantt Town, there is a vehicle entry fee of Rs 25-65 per vehicle. It's good in a way,you can walk at your own pace and enjoy without the beeps and the honks.Except the monkey point last parking point where the vehicles are flooded. For a place as small as Kasauli what's so great about exploring it by car!We walked and walked as long as we could, bearing in mind the dog we had.

Kasauli What To See

Lower Mall Road, Kasauli : Every hill station in India has a mall road,Kasauli has two:Lower Mall and Upper Mall road.A stretch of barely half a km,the LM road has many grocery shops, cloth shops, tibetan stalls and a few restaurants. If you have been to Dalhousie before, the kind of flee markets we have there are similar to te ones we have in Kasauli.I am so crazy about shopping, that I can totally survive on it,for most people it's the food they need, for me it's the daily or a weekly dose of shopping.I got myself a wrap around skirt,a very interesting piece I never found anywhere in India except Kasauli. There were many skirts of all length and patterns, costly as little as Rs 180-200.

Treat yourself with funky tees with funny messages,at the Lower Mall Road. There were also shops selling tibetan jewellery and footwear, but as per my previous shopping experience,Leh is more affordable for tibetan artifacts.

We took a stroll down the road, fully soaked in the atmosphere that was as pleasant as it could get.Sometimes it was raining, sometimes it was foggy but we were too reluctant to go back.At the LM road,it's best yo hold your stuff tight to not lose them to monkeys as there are so many.Oh well!!!I have a monkey story to tell.A Dog and a Monkey,I've already turned myself into a mini zoo courtsey Kasauli.

Upper Mall Road , Kasauli: I said Malls are synonymous with shopping at Hill Stations,Upper Mall road is an exception.Upper Mall Road is where we have attractive view points, like Sunrise Point,Usman Path,Gilbert Trail and Lover's Lane.Lover's lane sounds so hush hush.Upper Mall road is highly recommended to those who love hiking in nature, all the trails are interesting visual retreat.Upper Mall Road was where we met our dog buddy, who was with us,for today and tommorow and walked, trekked and hiked with us.There are no shops in the UM road,so before you start walking,it's best to have your breakfast, lunch at the LM road. The best time to hike in the Upper Mall Road is early morning till noon,as after the noon time,an envelope of thick fog starts forming and stays for next 2-3 hours. It gets dark quite late in Kasauli like around 7-7:30 pm

I pray I travel international and will do Eurotrip soon..searching for cheapest flights, hostels.Wanna come along? It's a pleasure, drop in comments.

Monkey Point/Man-Ki-Point Kasauli : The most popular place to visit in Kasauli,Monkey Point is a trek leading to the highest point in Kasauli, where we have the Hanuman mandir at the top.Taxis from the main Kasauli town to Monkey Point Last Parking Point(3km) takes Rs 250.From there it is a trek of 1km.Photography and all electronic gadgets(mobile/laptop etc) are prohibited in the trek

What If I Throw This Big Bang Stone Right Down The Valley

Giani Da Dhaba Kasauli: The one thing I like about any of the Dhaba is the ambience and food. The dhaba is no regular shabby dhaba but more of a hotel. The paranthas and the dal is delicious.Try one!

Watch the NDTV Goodtimes video as my favourite Duo Rocky And Mayur takes you to the food joints in Kasauli.

Lawrence School,Sanawar: This is where our Munnabhai MBBS aka Sanjay Dutt has done his schooling. The school is a little far from the main Kasauli Town.

Monkeys Ain't Cute Always

I admire animals, mostly all of them.Monkeys are no exception. And there are many many in Kasauli. Our day 1 was on doing some random photography of the cute monkeys with their babies on the road. The next day I had the most hilarious experience.

While I was standing in the Balcony, two three monkeys jumped and came in.I always was told by others that Monkeys attack people who have polybags or some stuff in their hands.I paid no attention as they weren't so near to me.The monkey started running towards me as if to attack me for reasons I never knew.

I ran towards the door and shut it from behind, they jumped on the window panes and started making faces, scary ones at that...!As I was behind the glass pane,I couldn't stop laughing and after a while started making faces back at them. When I was tired replicating the act,I simply closed the curtains.

But they started jumping all over the terrace and the roof, making consistent thud thud sound, never knew monkey's could be that nasty. It wasn't my first monkey encounter, till now I have met many. When in India, you can't escape monkeys. If you are on a jungle safari, and you can't spot a tiger, there are always monkeys. At MP,we even had a chance to give food to wild monkeys by hand, but monkeys at Kasauli are of different world.

Watch this space for more, when I take through the little less known place Barog, where scenes of movie Jab we Met was shot!!!A quaint beautiful place in the hills..

Here's where Sanjay Dutt has done his schooling..

Like my blog and been to Kasauli, share your experience, and I add the relevant ones on my blogpost with your names. Thanks for visiting ;)

Aha Korea,Here I Come

Korea is a dreamland,a land where fairy tales still exist.A land where the craziness is still kicking alive.A land where the nature blushes, and terrain turns all pink with cherry blossoms.A land where traces of innocence are still found in abundance.A land where white frost covers the town in sherry white.A land which celebrates mud.A land where the water of the blue seas sweeps down your feet in a gentle cacophony.A land which makes you come back again and again. No,I haven't been to this dreamland before, but aspire to be someday there. To experience the absolute balance of earthiness with the right mix of Gen-X crowd. And with 20 travel bloggers around,it'll be a caravan, the best travellers meet ever,at the perfect place.

With every dream we wish. With every wish we dream. And with every dream,we experience a place which we have never been to,but would any day love to.Here are a few things I would love to do,in Korea, which as of today is part of my dream.

The best way to explain what to do in Korea is through a video. Here's my casual video interaction with you on why and what I would love to do in Korea.

/*The paintings given below are all my original creations and depicts a shadow as me because it's still a dream afterall*/

1)Visit the Island Of Gods "Jeju Island"

Type "Jeju Island" in Google Images, and you'd know that you are in heaven. It's so so beautiful,no words. No wonder,it tops my to do list.Idyllic scenery located at the tip of Korea.Sun-kissed beaches, ivory coastline, mountains, waterfalls, lava caves and countryside, temples, national parks await me.Jump!Jump!I'll bring back the picture perfect postcard from Jeju.I know one of them would make my perfect Facebook profile pic.

2)Experience the Cherry Blossoms at Kyeong-Wha Station

No land celebrates Spring as Korea. The beautiful Cherry Blossoms are everywhere.I have my small little garden at my home, and if if only those cherry blossoms can be grown at my small terrace pots,I would be all merry and happy. But Korea has the climate and the space. For now,I would love to be on the top of the train at Kyeong-Wha Station,Jinhae as it approaches the station under the cherry blossom tunnel.Or take random photo shots with the blossoms Click click click!

3)Go "Aaaaa Bang Bang" at Nore-Bang Korean Karaoke

I am a rock star phew..hah!What a pleasure to be at your vocal best at a new place. After my daily sessions on Bathroom singing back home, the singer's all set to rock and roll at the Nore-Bang Karaoke, bring it on!

4)Shine like a Queen at GyeongBokgung Palace

Palaces are treat to eyes.Every palace has a story.A story which is as magical as experiencing the palace.I might not be interested in the history, but I would find solace in the air of architectural beauty.I may not be a connoisseur of beautiful things, but I might be amazed at the past. There's always something for everyone. For me,I feel like a Queen at Palaces, and this one is one of my favourite.

5)Be a spoilsport, play with mud at Mud Festival

Korea is one place which has so many festivals, and festivals gives us a reason to be more joyful and cheerful.Mud Festival is one such celebration I would love to enjoy with my family and friends, and even strangers, who might be friends. No harm in being a little crazy, the Korean way!

6)Let's get serious,learn sword fight

The world is slowly and slowly becoming unsafe for women. There's always a desire to learn techniques to protect oneself, not all countries are open to the idea.Be it sword fight or martial arts,I would love to enjoy and learn the basics with the Korean expert.

7)Toy around in Lotte World

We all are kids at heart. The world's best indoor theme park with an outdoor magic island,ah Didn't I tell you already, Korea is Magical.I am all set for the roller coaster...yohooo!

8)I go crazy at Myeongdong Shopping

I am an impulsive shopaholic Maniac.Give me wings, and I would love to land at any of the marketplace or malls and stay there forever.Shopping at Myeongdong will be fun, looking forward to it.

9)Be a part of Korean Village

When there's so much to see,why miss the countryside?Walking through the charming villages of Korea, will give me a sense of fulfilment even if it is for a day.So lets go

10)Lets say it loud "Kimcheee"

Wikipedia says "Kimchi also spelled gimchi, kimchee, or kim chee, is a traditional fermented Korean dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings. "..Sounds mouth watering yummy isn't it?

11)Hike at Hallasan,or walk at Daedun  bridge or relax at Cheonggyecheon stream

Mt. Hallasan stands tall in Korea,Daedun bridge looks interesting and the stream is an awesome place to relax..What more do we want!

I love travelling like everyone else, but I have a mission to help others travel through my blog,I have been to Bhutan, and my videos and writeups help the folks in my country to go for Bhutan on their own now.I have been to all over India, and my writeups have helped many.I believe,if Korea be next, then it would make many Indians realize Korea as the next wow destination and all through my blog. Will I ever get a chance? Will I?

Lets together make my dream real.Aha Korea! Here I Come.

The lady at the right is me,at the moment, stuck in the concrete jungle called life. The lady at the right is happier me while discovering Korea.

Am I waiting for my next train or Am I just enjoying the pretty sight?

Why Barog?

-Cauz it has the straightest tunnel in the world.

-Cauz someone cautioned me "Barog would be a trek from the highway","there is nothing to do there.." etc etc.The warnings sounded too adventurous to not try

-Cauz "Barog" name sounded better than "Dharampur",the weirdest reason to go to the little less known place.

-Cauz "Barog" was where "Jab we Met" was shot,my favourite movie

Wild Flowers on the way to Barog Station

How To Reach Barog

Understanding our plight to go to Barog  in spite of the warnings, dad arranged for us the car.Going Barog is not very easy unless you have a vehicle.

1)There are very few buses which goes from Chandigarh or Delhi to Barog, and hardly any if you want to go from Kasauli to Barog.Taxi charges are equally expensive. So what do we do?

2)Best way is to take a Shimla - Kalka train, which halts at Barog, after that there is a small hike of around half a km up,to reach the roadway. But then again,if you are not in for an adventure like this,or if you are with the elderly and have lots of luggage, best is to ask your resort for the pick up.

3)Or you can directly board a bus at Kalka/Chandigarh/Delhi,or take a taxi from Kasauli. If you are taking a bus, then you'd have to hike or even do a short trek before you reach the station.

4)Whatever it is,make sure you have appropriate plans on how to reach the place beforehand.

5)If you have no clue, even then the Himachal tourism is the best to help you out,in fact they are the best to plan your homestays, your vacations anywhere in Himachal.

The Funny Kasauli-Barog By Car

                                                                        Inspiring contrast of Colors

So as I was saying, dad arranged for us a car.We had already done a round1 Kasauli on Day1,today we wanted to just walk around, get the morning view, the sunrise the points before getting into our car. This chap came early and was in a hurry. We didn't know "Lazy kids on the walk".When we came with our luggage down,he said "Jaldi baitho,ap bache log, brigadier saab ko receive karna hai 12 baje shimla pe,ap abhi aa re ho!"His words were so broken that we looked at our watch and were like huh,how can anyone possibly reach by 12 and that too at Shimla. But we were wrong. The car started at a pace that was equal to being on a jet plane,no stops,no gossips.Well in between there was a short conversation of very short nature, all thanks to the traffic jam.He said age walk karke jao, oops poor guy.We didn't even ask him where, because we knew for him each second was precious. How do we know it?Well, sometimes you just know it.We stocked on our Kurkures from the highway,we knew we won't get much there.

The Barog Highway - Barog Tunnel Walk

How about some fresh pomegranate juice?

We didn't know whether we were stranded or there was really something down. All we could see was pine trees, forests and a kacha path. This seemed to be like going down from somewhere , we didn't know where.May be I would've listened to dad,may be we could have boarded the train at Dharampur. So many maybe's but the kacha road was tempting too,who knows if not Barog, then something else.My brother was constantly staring and sheepishly telling me "Haven't you already seen enough of tunnels in your life, than do something as absurd as trekking nowhere to get a glimpse of a tunnel maybe.Let me remind you all,my brother is sweet adventurous, and takes calculated risks or even risks which are sometimes beyond we could think of,but all that depends on his mood.Sometimes its easy, sometimes its a stretch..and today he was in a mood to fire me for the unknown path which lay ahead. But then after a little walk, the board at the highway said 'Barog  down' and they even had an option to stay at cottages,so yes all that couldn't be that vague. This gave us the confidence to move forward.

The short trek was awesome,we saw many pomegranate trees wild flowers amidst the lush green forests. And then when we were on our way down,we could spot the toy train coming.I almost jumped!Yes it was Barog, the beautiful station with the tunnel in the greens.

The Barog Story As Per Wikipedia

Video on Barog

Barog was settled in the early 20th century and was named after Colonel Barog, an engineer involved in building the railway track in 1903.

Barog, the engineer, was responsible for designing a tunnel near the railway station. He commenced digging the tunnel from both sides of the mountain, which is quite common as it speeds up construction.

However, he made mistakes in his calculation and while constructing the tunnel, it was found that the two ends of the tunnel did not meet. Barog was fined an amount of 1 Rupee by the British government. Unable to withstand the humiliation, Barog committed suicide. He was buried near the incomplete tunnel. The area came to be known as Barog after him.

Later it was constructed under Chief Engineer H.S. Harrington's supervison guided by a local sage, Bhalku in a short period from July 1900 to September 1903 at a cost 8.40 Lakh rupees (Rupees 840,000).

This tunnel is the longest of the 103 operational tunnels on the route of the Shimla-Kalka Railway, which is 1143.61m long. Barog station is immediately after the tunnel. Barog tunnel is the straightest tunnel in the World.

Trains take about 2.5 minutes to cross this tunnel, running at 25 kilometres per hour.

Admiring Barog

                                                                              And some Appies too...!

You know what's the best feeling on earth, making your brother jealous that it was me afterall who suggested...Well it was him who said Barog, and then backed out saying lets catch a train from Dharampur.Ok it wasn't some high end trek,ok it wasn't some Shimla or Manali, but this was different and cute.As cute as it can get and beautiful too.We had our next train reservation after 3 hours to Kalka, just the perfect time to explore the Barog station.

It's an adorable little station which is surrounded by greenery,a stream of water flowing behind, some shops on the station selling Himachal apples, and even free snacks,if you board the train :)Barog is also where a few scenes of "Jab we Met" was shot, and it's quite often visited by Bollywood stars.

Each tailor made cottage has the privilege of designing it as per the owner’s own choice & requirements. Each cottage would have a minimum of 1000 Sq.Ft. of covered area & total area of 1700 Sq.Ft.The covered area can be increased to 1500 Sq.Ft. & accordingly total area can be increased to 2550 Sq.Ft.The construction of all cottages would be first class construction.

The cost of the cottage would vary with the covered area & would be Rs 5,000/- per Sq.Ft. of covered area.Meaning thereby that a cottage of 1000 Sq.Ft. covered area & total area of 1700 Sq.Ft. would cost Rs 50 lacs.

Next we take a train from Barog-Kalka and head to Pinjore Garden.Or we go and explore Thimpu,Paro and Punakha in Bhutan or just be a chammak chalo at Mussorie..Let's see what's comes up next ..what do you think?

And a gud news!I am going Maldives from 1st Nov-6th Nov,my second international trip this year.

"A Friend in need is a Friend indeed".True friendships come along so rarely, and I am thankful to have met or have interacted with the following people and venture groups.Thank you all for your continued support and many many more to come in the years ahead

Backpacker Co :“We wanted our travellers to experience what we had—to explore, not just sight see".The folks from Backpacker Co have been my constant support and I feel proud to be in touch with them every now and then.

Connect With Himalaya : When I asked Gaurav,to be associated with my blog,he instantly said "So you travel a lot"..and I said back "So do you".Well my visit to Mumbai is long overdue, but I hope you all guys join the travel to the Himalayas soon along with me and them. They are awesome.

Kakini Enterprises :It's surprising to be friends with a lady on a mission.A lady who wants to make Indians know that "this is skydiving 14th camp, and not the first one".Bold, beautiful and all of 27 years.A dental surgeon by her past profession, and a lady with a strong will to succeed ahead with her focused ambition on popularizing skydiving.Hats off!

Nature Admire: It's interesting when people make travel real eco friendly. It's the passion in their voice that makes it so different.

Temple Pilots:Soar with winds, and fly in the air. It's cool to see people balance their lives travelling and doing sports with ease. And they are real good at it!

Bangalore Aerosports: The last time I talked to Captain Vinitha, she was a busy person. But the last time I met her was my first microlight experience with 360 turns in between. She's a lady and she's got guts! What makes her so interesting is she asks you "you want to learn, you have come here for fun,are you ok with the 360 degrees",that makes the experience all the more comfortable, for you and for her.

Skywaltz: Ballooning is an exhilarating experience. An experience you wouldn't dare to miss. And shouldn't because, isn't it great to have your special someone up in the air or your friends shouting and screaming mid air.Yes that's ballooning

Cdr Arun patil: My first interview with him,and I didn't know if he would reply. And when he did he said "You are doing something different".It felt great to be in touch with people who appreciate you(and believe me people who appreciate bloggers are few). And so with the mission to make Scuba all the more easy and accessible we have Cdr Arun Patil.

Archana Sardana: India's first civilian BASE jumper, skydiver,a mother of two and adventurous. She is a lady who has a mind of her own,and my inspiration. She's sweet, polite, friendly and you guessed it right,"BRAVE".

Ginger Claps: The team with a passion to bring in interesting events across various cities in India!

iReboot :Want to learn Journalism,Film Making,DJ ing or just want to evaluate what you can become and how will you?You have got all your answers here, thanks to Vikas ,Amogh and Mahalakshmi

Thrillophilia:It's easy to interview others, and difficult to answer questions someone has prepared for your interview.I faced the same, while I was still nervous and anxious about what they will ask me,or if it's gonna be like what are your plans 4 years from now,I'd be gone. But thanks for the real easy questions,it came out great :)

Fox Traveller :It was a good day for me to be on Fox Traveller Cover Page a month back. But what was more appealing was, they liked my every alternate blog post I posted on their wall. That's called "Being in touch" virtually.

Outlook Traveller : It's exciting to see your article getting printed on paper. When the editor had called me for the minor corrections before the print,I couldn't believe what was happening. But then thanks to outlook traveller for being so considerate.

Avirate - I was recently runners up in Avirate Real Women Contest. It was then,I was invited to Avirate Fashion Show, and that's where I met the beautiful ladies, some familiar faces, some new faces, and unbelievably the collections were superb.Time to go for some shopping at Avirate..Its yummy its mouthwatering collection they have.

France Tourism Board:Thanks to the France Tourism Board for inviting me in their roadshows.I never knew cycling in France is so popular and so cheap before the session, and now that I know, let the youth of India rechoice "being free and merry" in France.

Air Asia :Thanks for the cheapest flight that made us realise "let's fly abroad, because its more affordable"

Hostels : Thanks for introducing us to the magical world of hostels

Four Seasons : The great event, the great wine. What else do we want!

Black Dog :The best of events right there on your platter.

Kurumba Village Resort :One of the best resort I visited in recent times

So far we know how to get inner permits for travel in the interior parts of Bhutan and also how to prepare yummy Bhutanese Spicy Chicken Recipe.

Momy's day out with me at Thimphu

The following facts are essential,so I keep it on my Thimphu Headline:

1)Clock Tower is located at the center of the city.

2)Taxi stand is a 5 minutes walk from the Clock Tower.

3)Stay in Hotel, but take food outside to save some money.
Best place for stay is Hotel Tandin on Norzin Lam, best place for Indian vegetarian food is Hotel Ghasel which is near to Tandin

4)Bhutan TV Tower is also known as BBS Tower(Bhutan Broadcasting Service)

5)Mid Range hotels are in the category Rs 800 -Rs 1200

6)Petrol and diesel prices are cheaper in Bhutan than India

7)The only cinema hall in Thimphu "Lugar Theatre" projects Bhutanese Movies

8)Archery is the national sport of Bhutan, and Takin the national animal

9)Maruti Wagon R taxi for the day trip to Punakha from Thimpu would cost you anywhere between Rs 2000-2500/-

10)Hotel tandin has a bar which serves local liquors and Fosters beer

11)Bhutan is the first country in the world to have banned the sale of tobacco

12) As per Bhutan rules one can take 200 sticks of cigarettes for personal consumption. Selling, buying and public smoking of cigarette will amount to a minimum prison term of 3 years.

13)Most of the time ladies manage the shops and other establishments in Bhutan.

14)Most of the Building, Shops, Hotels (including Indian Consulate) adorn pictures of young King & Queen.

A point to note for the Thimphu Inner Permit

All the travellers should keep in mind that the government office in Bhutan including immigration office remained closed on Sat-Sun and working hours on all other days is 9am-4pm,this is applicable only when travelling inner parts of Bhutan to obtain the 2nd permit. At the end of the Norzin Lam is the handicraft bazaar. These are temporary bamboo huts opposite the immigration office which displays a lot of traditional Bhutanese handicrafts. They are very very expensive and a simple kira would cost you Rs 4000-5000.And the ones you will really really like for the prints would cost you Rs 10k+.Of course, not something you'd like to invest in a journey costing way less.

Aha..what peace!

Then what do we do?

For souvenirs, its best to explore the streets of town starting from opposite of clock tower till the shops are visible. There are quite a few shops where a kira would cost you anywhere from Rs 600-Rs1500,still affordable. There are shops where we get imports from other countries, costing as little as Rs 150 for a jacket. And if you are a lady,a kira and taego is must take back home item,it adds to dimension, character and glamour to your frame. In fact all the ladies in Bhutan looked very smart. There is also a national textile museum just next to Handicraft bazaar which is dedicated to living national art of weaving.

The places you should visit

National Memorial Chorten,Bhutan: This large Tibetan style chorten was built in honour of the third king. The whitewashed chorten with glimpses of gold is a must visit place, similar to the monasteries we have in Leh,but the designs here are more intricate.

Buddha Point,Bhutan:This is a point on a hilltop, where the giant Gautam Buddha is erected but the site is still not complete and the construction work is going on.Since this place is at a height, you get to see awesome views from the top.

While returning back from Buddha Point,we stopped at arts and crafts shops and the library that comes in the way to the main city.We got our self Bhutan printed tees for Rs 250 from the arts crafts shop.

Takin Preservation Center,Bhutan:Takin is the national animal of Bhutan and is said to be cross breed of goat and antelope.A ten minutes hike takes you to a park circled with mesh.We got a close view of 2-3 takins as they were right there in front of us.

Changankha Dzong,Bhutan:This is one of the oldest dzong in the thimphu valley.Locals believe that the temple is auspicious for babies, hence its a ritual to bring babies just after their birth to Changankha. This place is considered blessing for the kids in Bhutan.

Trashi Chhoe Dzong,Bhutan:The present dzong was built to house government officials. We went there and we were told not to take photographs until the session gets over,in fact we were not allowed inside before 5:30pm.Later we were told that the session is over and the king is leaving the dzong. We thought we'll get a glimpse, but we couldn't.The dzong is very very huge and beautiful too.

Black Dog Comedy Evenings

'Uncensored And Unleashed',that's what the Black Dog Comedy Evenings at Hotel Ista was all about. Ashvin Mathews and Anil Abraham were all set to tickle our funny bones with their witty humor. Right next to 1 MG mall and Lido Mall is the Hotel Ista. The staff greeted us at the door and directed to the top floor.I met Sumath from ginger claps yet again, this time searching for other bloggers at the show. And the show hasn't started just yet,the rush to witness the mad laughter evening was visible in all the smiling faces. As they say

A day without laughter is a day wasted. - Charlie Chaplin

While I was waiting for the show to begin,I was also waiting for the other bloggers to arrive. The evening was filled with laughter already, the giggles and hoo haa all around the room.It was a weekday, and a friday..Fridays are when it feels like its the end of the damn boring world, and lets celebrate.

A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life. -Hugh Sidey

And celebrate is what we did.Friday Evenings just doesn't get better.Alfresco ambience, unlimited beverages, party snacks !I had my black dog whiskey in a Black Dog way, didn't I tell you we had a session already on that last week :)

The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.-Mark Twain

Well said,Ashvin Mathews and Anil Abraham made us laugh so much that for one day we totally forgot the routine in life we have otherwise. It was that funny, very funny.Infact not only me,but the whole crowd was enjoying the humor. It was as if the Laughter channel from the TV has come live on our doorstep.

Laughter is the tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain - Charlie Chaplin

Thanks to Hotel Ista,Black Dog and Ginger Claps for the lovely evening.

To my horror

After my busy day at Thimphu,Bhutan last night,we were all ready to witness the grand Punakha dzong at Punakha..But wait,I was shivering.Did I have fever, did the grand tour of Kolkata,Darjeeling,Kurseong,Bangalore,Kanyakumari and the hectic train journeys finally made me sick.I felt weird because I wanted to enjoy, but I had the worst fever and headache the next day along with some pea size red spots on my body.Measles, chicken pox or just allergy!

I decided to not risk, and went straight to the IMTRAT hospital at Thimphu. We were all given visitor numbers and we were all in a queued chair at the side of the clinic. The wait wasn't as long as I thought of,but that half an hour made me realize how sweet the ladies of Bhutan are.Yes,the charming Bhutanese lady beside me had respect for Indians, and she was a traveler too.We had the best half an hour conversation and when I proceeded to the doctor's chamber "I just wished it's nothing serious" but when he said Chick - en -pox ,take rest, water, don't exert,it felt like shit! Yes shit.

For a moment, the people I met in my last trip came to my mind,is it because of him,is it because of her..because chicken pox is contagious..how could I possibly get it!I had no answers.

I know by now, most of you might have forgotten about my first video on Bhutan, here it is for a quick recap

Where To Stay In Punakha

You need not stay in Punakha.Punakha is a day trip from Thimpu, and while visiting all the sightseeing places, its best to get back to Thimpu to proceed to Paro the next day.

The Punakha Journey and 108 Chortens

Thimpu - Punakha -Thimpu by taxi takes around Rs 2000-2500.The first stop after passing the pine and oak trees on the way was 108 chortens at Dochula Pass.

108 Chortens  were constructed in 2004 to honor the dead, from a conflict between the Bhutanese army, and Indian insurgents who were using Bhutan as a sanctuary.

The chill and the drizzle added to the magnificent view, not to miss the snow clad Himalayan mountains as the backdrop. The cold wind was icy and rude, blocking our ears and noses. But we were enjoying every bit of it.This is one of the places which looks really great in winters in the snow, and looks equally promising in summers.

The irony of going to Punakha is even if every other part of Bhutan is pleasant, this particular stretch on Dochula pass is really really cold,at 3150 meters.

The Huts and Houses Punakha

We were surprised to see so many identical homes in Bhutan. All of them had the similar architecture designs and artistry.Out of curiously we asked our driver, and he replied "We in Bhutan respect our culture and we abide by rules set by the government, how do you think it is possible that the people wear the same kira and taego even kids in the modern age ,how do you think we have almost 0 crime rate, how do you think we have similar homes?"Our king is kind enough to support us with the land, construction and safety we abide by his rules. You see,we love our king,he has given us so much.

The Punakha Dzong

If you ask me to choose 2 places for a must visit in Bhutan,I would suggest Punakha Dzong and Tiger's Nest.Tiger's Nest is in Paro and we go there tomorrow. Punakha dzong is one such place where we entered the wooden cantilever bridge crossing the Mo Chu river to enter the Dzong complex which is surrounded by greenery and lilac colored jacaranda trees. The place is postcard picture perfect. The interior of the dzong is huge,it took us around 2 hours to cover the interiors still we couldn't complete the whole dzong. And believe me mom and me literally lost ways to exit the dzong, but finally managed to spot the blue colored guards for direction. It's that huge!

Punakha Dzong is also where royal wedding of the King of Bhutan, Jigme Wangchuck, and his fiancéJetsun Pema, was held in October 13, 2011.

Confluence of Mo Chu And Po Chu

A park is situated by the side of confluence of two rivers (River Mo & River Chu). The Park, which has been developed very recently is strategically located from where we can see two rivers meeting together and at the back drop, the grand Punakha Dzong, the religious Headquarters and the first capital of Bhutan. As we were already aware that we wouldn't get anything to eat in Punakha,we already had got ourselves the packed food from Thimphu.Otherwise you can try chicken curry at Punakha Market Hotel "Restaurant".But best is to carry your food from Thimphu, there are not many options to eat in Punakha, and the few ones are based on your pre order(order while going, and eat while coming back) and are closed during lunchtime.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong is a project funded by government of India. It was like, more or less, same as other Dzongs but very very old and was under construction. In fact when we went inside,we could spot the carpenters carving the intricate designs and they were surprised to see us at the under construction site.

If you are wondering what happened to my Chicken Pox,well with the best things to enjoy in life,it's good to forget the pain and carry on.I would've taken rest the whole 5 days,as doctor suggested, but I would've missed Bhutan. And if I would've missed Bhutan,I wouldn't have written an article on Bhutan.Sometimes it felt like giving it all,I felt more chill than the others, and felt more weak too.But at the end of it "Yes I did it :) ".

And when I write it,I know amongst the humble appreciation of few genuine souls, there will be many others who will think, she writes to build up an emotional quotient,in fact my brother said "don't write about CP" but cummon this is my blog, and not a newspaper article. It's what I write is what is truth according to me.I hope my article was helpful, tomorrow we go Paro, and discover the majestic Tiger Hill And the highest motor able pass in Bhutan.

I wish I win

9 MONTHS,154 POSTS ,450 COMMENTS

Am I happy?Am I sad?Well contrary to what people think of me I do not congratulate myself too much or berate myself too much.I do not even know if this is the correct path yet,I am yet to learn many things, and I am yet to win any travel contests. My only wish in life for last 6 months,is to win a travel contest, how much effort I may put in,I always escape the eyes of the judges.I do not understand, may be its all karma,or may be it takes patience.

"Many of my friends have told me "They love my vagabond life, and wish they had money time or just the will to quit and travel".I am no richie richie,if you read my blog you'll know how less money I spend on every place I travel. And it's definitely not because I have the money!I would love to live in a villa or a private resort, but I do not mind being the backpackers way as well.

To be honest,I do not know SEO,I use to record my videos on sony wx7 digicam worth 11k till last month. Now I have the canon 550d,and I am happy.I do not know video editing,I somehow manage, thanks to youtube tutorials.Till 9 months back,I didn't know how a blog can have a separate url and not blogspot.com,I am still not very comfortable with WordPress.I recently started twitter(two month back) and opened my account on blog adda which is yet to be approved. I do not take money from my father or my husband for general expenses,I rather pay my own. When we travel together,I offer to contribute my share which is my savings of last 6 months of work.I am yet to learn PR and Marketing.I am yet to learn how to earn,on blogging.I am looking for freelance projects which might help me do that.I am hopeful that things might work, and as Neha Dixit says on NDTV "Believe in Magic" or just "Believe in Me".I am her biggest fan, simply love the crazy dizzy way she is on NDTV good times.

A few things that made my life a little "not so boring".Just till last 2 weeks,I was busy in the film making course of 2 weekends with ireboot, where I met many interesting people.I did a DJ course also with them because I wanted to know what goes behind the scene.

This small badge from Backpacker Co doesn't hurt either!

And one thing that made me really happy in the last week was "I was the runners up in Avirate Real Women Contest Bangalore."An evening filled with fashion shows, free wine dine and awesome collection of clothes.

And a short RT by Lonely Planet India,I feel good because I love Lonely Planet.

It's great to see and interact with so many travelers on my Facebook Page, even great to form travel groups. So in April-May we are heading to Europe and we have a Facebook Group Euro Jam :
 https://www.facebook.com/groups/239131022879608
 You can join in too!

My best friend says,I always cry over things instead of rejoicing over the positives, but why jump in when I have nothing to pump in(money :P)

And no..I don't have the crew to maintain my blog.I learn I do things, and I enjoy, sometimes I am sad, sometimes worried and sometimes happy!I am a human being after all.

And more recently Mahesh's comment on my blog made my day

"Few points

1. Thanks for allowing anonymous comments. I am very bad at remembering ids.

2. Very good write ups. I reached your blog randomly bit will keep coming back again and again.

3. I know many travelers which are your kind, travel light and low cost. But they hardly share information.

~mahesh "

Ah..a little relief the number 200(as mentioned earlier) is not the original number of posts, the number of posts published till date is 154. Didn't I tell you I am not really good at blogging and stuff!Yet to learn many many things.

I am still keeping my fingers crossed for my Maldivian trip next month,I've heard it's costly, but I have decided to not spend much on the leisure part of it.Lets see!

But I still need to win a travel contest!I wish..I win.

Skydiving Mysore Dhana India

"Mam I Google about Skydiving Mysore,Skydiving Dhana,Skydiving India I get confused, there are different rates, different dates different venues what shall I do?I do not even know how safe are each of them?I am confused,I really want to go for it"-Day before yesterday when I got this call,I wasn't surprised, this was bound to happen.Information overload on Internet,in fact so much information that if I Google it now, there would be 20+ sites which opens up!But at the end of this confusion and his desire to jump the poor chap decided Thailand would be a better option. And why not!

Let's take Skydiving in India a little easy

There are two upcoming dates for skydiving in Dhana/Mysore,there are more dates, but I am not really aware of the exact ones.

26th Oct-28th Oct : Skydiving Dhana
9th Nov-15th Nov : Skydiving Mysore

How do I know it?

I belong to a profession where I interact with adventure folks on a daily basis,I have taken interviews of scuba divers, entrepreneurs and people who are now my friends.I know it,because they do it.As simple as that.

How safe is Skydiving?

As safe as any other adventure sports.Do you think any adventure sports guarantee you 100% safety? They do not, that is why we sign up an indemnity form. This holds true for all adventure sports.Have you tried bungee in Rishikesh,or even rafting there, you do have an indemnity form to sign, but does that stop you from trying? It's as safe as walking down the crowded roads of Bangalore,or even more safer :)

How safe is Skydiving in India?

Recently one of my friend had a genuine concern,Why would I do it here if adventure sports are taken so lightly in this part of the world.Fact is skydiving per se,is being happening for a year with 0 accidents till date.Of course you wouldn't get the views of new zealand beneath you,but going to New zealand itself would cost you a bomb!Isn't it?

Types of Skydiving?

In Tandem Skydiving, jump participant is connected via a harness to the instructor. The instructor guides the participant through the whole jump from exit through free fall, piloting the canopy, and landing. The participant needs only minimal instruction before making a tandem jump.
Jump is carried out at 10,000 ft. Few Hours of training is required for participant

In Static Skydiving jump, participant jumps alone with the parachute, and the parachute  is deployed immediately after leaving the plane, regardless of actions taken or not taken by the parachutist. One instructor is in the aircraft who assist in jumping from the aircraft, and other who is on ground helps in landing by  giving instructions through radio contact.Jump is carried out at 4000 ft. Participant undergoes 1.5 days of training

Why is Skydiving so costly?

Static solo jump is best way to learn skydiving and it's cheap in India.Tandem is costly and we all are aware.Fact is even airfares within India are costly than abroad. If you can get the air fuel and the plane(preferably air asia) with the approvals from DGCA and the airports,we are game!We might even treat you for free :P

The Skydiving details for Dhana:

Camp dates - 26th oct - 28th oct

Check out the previous dates and rates ;) Previous Skydiving Rates And Dates

Any previous Skydiving experiences?

Shweta shares with us her skydiving in Pondicherry experience Shweta's Skydiving Experience

Where to Skydive?

Easy, choose a place which is near

For folks from MP,Delhi,Bombay :  Skydive in Dhana
For folks from Chennai,Bangalore,Pondicherry,Mangalore,Mysore: Skydive in Mysore

Who does it,really?

Tricky question.Call me up and I'll flood you with details on that part. For now the base camp is Dhana and Deesra(gujrat),the camps keeps on changing depending on the number of people interested. In last 6 months,it been happening all over eg Pondicherry Baramati and now Mysore.

I want to get along my travel buddies to Skydiving, will my efforts be appreciated?

I know it's tough to convince your friends to jump off the plane, but if you still manage to,you'd get a referral discount,so your skydiving becomes more affordable to you and your friends. It involves maths and 10% flat for 5 friends you get along! It's just a token of appreciation for your hard work,so get along friends.

How to confirm your skydiving slots?

Mail me at ankionthemove@gmail.com or call me at 9845088909.In most cases I respond back in a day,in case I do not,I must be travelling, and would send you a short message on getting back to you. That's not called customer service that's called friendship.

And people ask me,its sad but they do,what do I gain out of it?

Well, your once in a lifetime experience, and that fact that my blog makes it so easily accessible to you.

For all the previous post and video on Bhutan:All About Bhutan

We reached Thimphu passing the now foggy Dochula Pass.In my heart I wanted to stop and click the pictures again, but it was already late.My brother took a quick walk down the road,to watch a movie at the only theatre in town, unfortunately the movie had already started half an hour back.Next we took a stroll to the market, where mom purchased for herself a jacket, and very cheap. It was our last day at Thimphu,so we did whatever we could!

The Splendid Paro

The Airport of Bhutan is at Paro. And Paro undoubtedly is one of the the most beautiful valley in Bhutan, the reason, you got it right,Tiger's Nest. But Tiger's nest is not the only place in Paro, the whole Paro city is walk able and is beautiful surrounded by snow capped mountains and lush greenery.

How To Go Paro

Walk down the bus stand which is just across the National Stadium at Thimpu ,get tickets to Paro for the first bus at 9am. It's best to get the tickets a day in advance to avoid the rush the other day, better reach an hour early at the bus stand. The trip to Paro from Thimphu takes 1 hour 15 minutes. There is an  abandoned mud house on the way from Thimphu to Paro, the only mud house in Bhutan. We clicked some pictures, inside the mud house was the darkness and the dirty water.

Stay At Paro

The best budget place to stay is Phunsum Hotel in Paro costing around Rs 1200/- and Hotel Paljorling for food and even cheaper lodging(Rs 550/-)

What To Do In Paro

Paro Airport Bird's Eye View: We love our airplanes, don't we?But how many times do we get to see the take off and the landing on the run way. Paro Airport Bird's Eye view is a point where if you stand, you can spot the runaway and the planes going in and out!

Chele La: A 90 minute drive from the Paro town is the Chele La which is situated at an altitude of 3,988 meters, the highest motor able pass in Bhutan. While travelling from Paro town,to chelela,we saw many yaks crossing the road in between. There were herds of yak, around 15-20 in number, there were baby yaks, grown up yaks. The moment we tried being close to them, they dispersed in all directions. Are we so scary??Anyways we proceeded towards the Chele La and in between we saw many lavender color wild flowers, spread across the green field..

Chele la is highest motorable pass, yes, but once you reach there, you have to hike half a km ,and then you see many Buddhist flags and the magnificent view. After spending 10-15 minutes at the last point of Chele La,we decided to go for tiger's nest.

Tiger's Nest: Tiger's nest is a mid strenuous trek of almost 2.5 hours up and 2.5 hours down from 7000 ft (Paro valley) to almost above 10,000 ft height. One piece of advice, its best to trek in the morning, than in the afternoon. The reason is simple,Tiger's Nest closes at 5:30 pm.You never know if you would take 2.5 hours or more one way.Usually people keep a day for tiger's nest, that way you can trek at your own convenience. Best is to carry your own water bottle as you would definitely be thirsty climbing up.And believe me there are no shops, until the cafe, which itself is far off. There is no pakka road, the trek starts from into the forest to the rugged hill to the waterfall then steep stairs and then tiger's nest. But any time of the year you trek, you wouldn't be alone, there are many people who come to Bhutan just for tiger's nest and it's worth it 200%.

National Museum: National museum was earlier housed inside a Circular 7th Century Fort or Watch Tower but now that is severely damaged due to earthquake and its been shifted to Dzong-like building just opposite to earlier structure. It contains lot of old coins, costumes, pictures of previous kings and queens and also the childhood pictures and the marriage pictures of the current king.Photography is prohibited in the museum.

Paro Dzong: Paro Dzong is also located on the top of a hill is a huge monastery. It is similar to all other monasteries in Bhutan. Some scenes in the 1993 Hollywood film “Little Buddha” were filmed in this Dzong. The Paro Tsechu festival is held here every spring

Kyichu Temple: is the oldest and most sacred temple in Bhutan.By the time,we had gone to the temple,it was already almost closed. But we noticed that the orange trees still had oranges though it was not the season of oranges.Locals told us,the ripe oranges are always there in the orange tree in the temple premises, irrespective of the season. They also told us not to pluck the oranges from the tree, but if one falls on you on its own, that's considered good luck. There was also a secluded enclosure, where a few thousand lamps were lighted but as the temple was closed we were not allowed to light the lamps.

Drukgyel Dzong (Fort): Drukgyal Dzong was a fortress and Buddhist monastery, now in ruins, located in the upper part of the Paro valley in Paro District of Bhutan. In the early 1950s Drukgyal Dzong was almost completely destroyed by fire. The place should be your last option when travelling Paro, and can even be skipped.

A taxi to Chelela + Tiger's Nest costs Rs 2000,and to National Museum,Paro Dzong and Kyichu temple combined as Rs 500.

It's best to get the tickets for the journey to Phuentsholing at the main market for 193/- per person in advance of one day to avoid the last minute inconvenience. The bus timings are 07:30 am and 09:00 am.

Per person budget for Bhutan: 6500 pp,5 days

That's all about Bhutan.I hope you all enjoyed my experience, and now you are planning to get set go soon!

"Ringa ringa roses pocket full of poses" danced the small little girls in the school, their symphony almost matching their steps, their smiles sparkling with innocence. The boys were busy playing football, and some of them climbing ropes.

A school is a school, remains always a school. No matter where we are at present, there is always a special place of school in one's heart. For me,school is where I have had my fondest memories & till date the most innocent ones.School is also where we built life long friendships which stays forever.

Have you ever been on a vacation and stayed in a school? This journey is about how we rediscovered ourselves, our own sense of "To be free" and our new synonym of "Lets Go".All that while staying at the Oak Grove School,in Jharipani

Where is Jharipani?

Jharipani is nestled between Dehradun and Mussoorie.

How did we go there?

...That's a long story. We boarded the public bus at Dehradun going to Mussoorie and asked the conductor for Jharipani Bus Stop.He said "Baith Jao,Jab Aega To Bta Dunga"[Sit down, will inform you when it comes]

The bus stop is 4 km from Jharipani village and 10km from Oak Grove School. We were told that there is another bus which comes near to Oak grove school, but the timing is very absurd, and noone knew the timing as such. When we initially started to hike,we thought the school would be nearby, but then we were not sure because there weren't any school boards on the road. The thick fog covered the road with the valley alongside, making the road barely visible.

It was as if we were walking on the clouds.I recall that every 15-20 minutes,I had to confirm if my brother is nearby by shouting his name.It was that foggy. We walked a few kilometers enjoying the unpredictable path which lay ahead. At one point nothing was visible and then we decided to take a lift from any vehicle which might pass by because hiking for 10 kms with 0 visibility is no big deal.

After waiting for another 30-45 minutes,we could spot a vehicle coming.Shall we take a lift shall we not?We decided to trust the person in the car and he was sweet enough to give us a lift, and drop us at Oak Grove School. These locals, how do they drive with visibility so less!!!

Coming Up soon Video on Jharipani fresh landslides, leaches and our stay :)
